He is famous for his inspiring speech I have a dream . It is important for every person to have at least one dream in their life. So what about you? Do you have any dreams? What is your dream?.然后通过肯定并总结学生的答案来引入本单元的话题“梦想”。“的确如你们所说，马丁路德金以他的激励人心的演讲而闻名于世，其实拥有一个梦想对于我们每一个人来讲都是很重要的。那么同学们你们有没有自己的梦想？你们的梦想是什么？”The fifth slide第五张幻灯片I will ask my students to brainstorm on this topic and they may have a lot of beautiful dreams. While some dreams may not be so realistic, then its necessary to point out that the word dream may have two different meaning. What we are talking about is a goal that we may have. 让学生就这一话题来阐述各自的梦想，在这里我用到“头脑风暴”这一英语教学中典型的教学方法。个别同学的答案可能会有一些不够切合实际的梦想，那么在这里有必要给学生讲清楚DREAM一词有“梦想”和“幻想”两种含义，而我们今天讨论的是梦想。I will give each student some feedback while they speak out their dreams. The feedbacks could be a kind of encouragement, an analysis of the dream or how they can achieve their dreams. 在学生说出他们各自梦想的过程中我会给出相应的反馈。比如说：给予一定程度的鼓励，用一两句话帮助简单分析这个梦想的意义或者实现的途径等等。After the brainstorm activity, I will categorize and make a brief summary of the possible dreams.然后我会整体总结概括一下学生的答案，并对梦想进行简单分类。Some people may dream of becoming a millionaire or making a lot of money; others may dream of becoming a great person; others may have got an educational dream, like obtaining a master degree or a doctorate degree in a world-class university; still others may just want to have a long and happy life.The sixth slide第六张幻灯片That may lead to the topic American Dream. Since they have got some beautiful great dream, I will ask if they have got an American Dream and what American Dream may mean to them. Students will give different answers. I will make brief comments to their answers and make a summary.然后通过问题你们有没有美国梦？美国梦在你们看来指的是什么？来引入美国梦这一概念。 听了学生的各种回答以后我会给与简短的评论并进行总结。Students may understand American dream as a better education, a good job, a nice place to travel, or a better life. To sum it up, American dream may mean different things to different people, but generally speaking, it is just the belief that America can provide a great opportunity to achieve success.学生可能会把美国梦理解为更好的教育，好工作，旅游好去处或者是更好的生活。我总结一下：诚如大家所说，美国梦对不同的人会有不同的含义。但是一般而言，美国梦就是认为美国这个国度能够提供更多更好的机会，通过努力人们都可以获得成功的信念 Step two: Text type analysis The seventh and eighth slides第七、第八张幻灯片Today, lets come to Unit Four, Tony Trivisonnos American Dream. Students are supposed to infer the type of writing just based on the title of this passage. To make it easier, I may give them the words narration, exposition and argumentation in advance.引出文章题目“托尼特里韦索诺的美国梦”。请同学们根据文章题目来推断文章体裁。为了降低难度，给出同学们三个备选项：记叙文、说明文和议论文。The question followed is about the six elements that a typical narrative essay may cover: the time, the scene, the character, the event, the reason and the way. Students are expected to tell the elements they can get from the title. The title has already revealed the character, the event and the scene. Id like the students read the first four paragraphs really fast to check if we guessed it right and at the same time try to find out the time that the event happened. The answer is “the Depression days”. Then I will make a brief introduction to the Depression days, and make it clear that during such a period of time it is not so easy to find a job or gain a better life.Then Ill lead my students to explore the answers to the other elements.让学生回顾记叙文的六个要素，然后请他们根据文章题目来推断出地点（美国），人物（托尼）和事件（追求美国梦）。快速阅读前四段验证她们的推断，同时找出事件发生的时间（经济大萧条时期）。我会简单介绍一下20世纪二三十年代的经济大萧条，然后指出在这样一个时期想要找到一份工作或者争取更好的生活状态是非常困难的。The ninth and tenth slides第九、第十张幻灯片To reemphasize the questions and give students some hints to make it easier for them to find the answer to the first question “how did he achieve his American Dream”.Students can just focus on the quotation marks to pick out Tonys words. While doing this I need to remind the students to check if tony speaks correct English. If his English is not perfect, how can his words be corrected or improved.通过上一张幻灯片的学习，我们已经找到了记叙文的四个要素，接下来就来找出第五个要素：方式（他怎么样实现他的美国梦的）以及第六个要素：原因（为什么他能成功）。我让同学们在文中找出托尼所说的话，并提示她们直接找双引号，因为引号里面的就是托尼的话语。我还提醒同学们，因为托尼来自意大利，他的英语不是十分准确。同学们找到他的话语以后，尝试着改成正确的句子。The eleventh slide第十一张幻灯片Check the answer by asking students to locate the sentences in the passage, read them out and provide the correct form. From mowing the lawn at the authors house, to clearing snow at the authors factory, to becoming an apprentice and then a skilled worker, to buying a house of his own and finally to buying a farm, he took several different jobs like gardener, cleaner, apprentice, house owner and a farmer and he finally achieved his dream through his own effort step by step. 让学生读出托尼的所说的话，并改为语法正确的句子。从在作者家里修剪草坪，到去作者的工厂清理积雪，再到做工厂学徒，成为熟练工人，然后买房子，再到卖了房子买农场。他由一个园艺工人到清洁工再到工厂学徒再到拥有自己的住房和农场，托尼通过自身的努力，一步一步地实现自己的美国梦。The twelfth slide第十二张幻灯片After getting the answer to the question how he achieved his dream, Ill lead students to find the answer to the question why he succeeded in fulfilling his dream. To lower the difficulty, I ask students to scan the last three paragraphs. Students are expected to tell me which paragraphs belong to the first part and which paragraphs should be grouped in the second part.找出文章六个要素之后，就引导学生分析文章结构。文章分为两部分：叙述部分和作者的反思部分。请同学们回答第一部分到第几段结束，并解释原因。 Step four : Writing strategy analysis写作策略分析The fourteenth slide第十四张幻灯片After finished finding the six elements of this narrative story, Id like to guide my students to explore the writing skills of this passage. Ill provide three choices for them to choose from: temporal sequence (here maybe they are not so familiar with the word temporal, I will give them another term time sequence), space sequence or flashback.
