I was afraid I just couldnt hide my excitement as it had been five years since I had been to the zoo. I was especially excited about getting to see the penguin exhibit that had been completed since my last visit. I thought it would be just as magical as it was the last time. The Tulsa Zoo is located on Mohawk Park, and covers 84 acres, making it the third largest zoo in the US. The zoo has several highlights, but I have to admit that I found myself rather disappointed. The maintenance is deeply lacking, and most of the exhibits, landscaping, etc. looked like it had not been updated or well kept. Unfortunately, their polar bear died a short time ago. The strangest attraction was the missing-in-action jaguar(美洲虎)We spent several minutes searching for the animal without any luck. In most cases the zoo was good about putting up a sign if the animal was no longer there or was moved to a different location, but it was a different case with the jaguar and likewise the kangaroo.Almost all of the hands-on equipment in the elephant encounter was broken and no longer working. Although the zoo did put up signs as an apology,it continued to add to the feeling that the zoo is approaching death. The one exhibit that did not fail to impress were the African Penguins. Their habitat was well built. The lion, bear, and tiger were also easy to watch. A favorite among the kids was clearly the monkeys who were very active and eager to put on a show. The Tropical Rainforest did a very good job creating a special atmosphere. The cafe served very good food and had lovely indoor and outdoor areas for eating. They are currently re-designing the Sea Lion exhibit,so the Sea Lions were not available for viewing while we were there. All things considered, the Tulsa Zoo is still the best zoo in our area, but I would only award it three out of five stars.21Seeing several highlights in the Tulsa Zoo,the author _.Afelt very excited Bwas a little frightenedCwas not satisfied with them Dthought it was worth seeing22Why did the author think it was a different case with the jaguar?ABecause the jaguar was friendly to the kangaroo and visitors.BBecause the zoo didnt use a sign to show if the jaguar was there.CBecause the jaguar is very dangerous compared with other animals.DBecause the jaguar had disappeared when the author got there.23What can be concluded from this passage?AThe Tulsa Zoo will be expanded to become the largest zoo in the US.BThe author intended to visit the Sea Lion exhibit before going there.CThe author felt that the Tulsa Zoo will close soon.DThe Tulsa Zoo was very popular when the author was young.24What does the author think of the Tulsa Zoo in general?AShe thinks nothing of it.BIt is the best zoo in the US.CShe thinks very poorly of it.DIt is a first class zoo in her area.BPeople People is Americas No.1 magazine about fascinating people. It will promote the value of the Chinese section from 150 to 180 points. Currently, the test weighs English, Chinese and maths equally. Officials have claimed the proposal as both a practical decision and a matter of national pride. The change highlights the fundamental importance of mother tongue in the curriculum, a representative from the commission told Xinhua. Education authorities are also considering removing compulsory English lessons before the third grade. They currently begin on the first day of primary school. Shandong and Jiangsu provinces, as well as Shanghai, may remove English from the Gaokao entirely. Public consultation on the proposal began on Monday, Xinhua reported.Wu Mengran, a 19-year-old recent high-school graduate in northern Chinas Inner Mongolia autonomous region, said the change would allow students to spend more time studying oral English rather than blindly copying grammar patterns in preparation for the test.In China, you can be really good at English tests but still not be able to use English to communicate, she said. Very few people study English here just to study English.Chinese schools currently mandate(强制)English classes until university, giving rise to a sprawling3.1bn private English training industry. Even remote cities are full of test preschools and tutoring agencies. Xinhua called the proposals no more than a minor adjustment, emphasizing that they would change the way that English is taught without diminishing its importance.29.Which of the following is not right?A. Education authorities are going to remove compulsory English lessons before the third grade.C. Shandong and Jiangsu provinces, as well as Shanghai, may remove English from the Gaokao entirely.D. Students are learning English hard in preparation for communication with foreigners.C. Students originally think that practicing oral English is more important than getting high scores.D. Students can learn English according to their own interests, not are forced to.DInterest in pursuing international careers has risen in recent years strengthened by permanent personnel shortages that are causing companies to search beyond their home borders for talent.Professionals seek career experience outside of their home countries for a variety of reasons. They may feel the need to recharge their batteries with a new challenge. They may want a position with more responsibility that encourages creativity. Or they may wish to expose their children to another culture, and the opportunity to learn a second language. When applying for a job, one usually has to submit a resume or curriculum vitae (CV). The two terms generally mean the same thing: a one- or two-page document describing ones educational qualifications and professional experience. However, guidelines for preparing a resume are constantly changing. The best advice is to find out what is appropriate regarding the company culture, the country culture, and the culture of the person making the hiring decision. The challenge will be to include two or more cultures in one document. The following list is a good place to start.Educational requirements differ from country to country. In almost every case of cross-border job hunting, just stating the title of your degree will not be an adequate description. Provide the reader with details about your studies and any related experience. Pay attention to the resume format you usechronological or reverse-chronological order. Chronological order means listing your oldest work experience first. Reverse-chronological order means listing your current or most recent experience first. Most countries have preferences about which format is most acceptable. If you find no specific guidelines, the general preference is for the reverse-chronological format. If you are submitting your resume in English, find out if the receiver uses British English or American English because there are changes between the two versions. For example, university education is often referred to as tertiary education in the United Kingdom, but this term is almost never used in the United States. A reader who is unfamiliar with these changes may assume that your resume contains errors.32.Companies are hiring more foreign employees because _.A. they find foreign employees are usually more talentedB. they need original ideas from employees hired overseasC. they want to expand their business beyond home bordersD. they have difficulty finding qualified personnel at home33.The author believes that an individual who applies to work overseas _.A. is usually creativeB. aims to improve his foreign language skillsC. is dissatisfied with his own life at homeD. seeks either his own or his childrens development34.When it comes to resume writing, it is best to _.A. take cultural factors into considerationB. learn about the companys hiring processC. follow appropriate guidelines for job huntingD. know the employers personal likes and dislikes35.According to the authors last piece of advice, the applicants should be aware of _.A. the different educational systems in the US and the UKB. the differences between the changes of EnglishC. the receivers preference with regard to the formatD. the special characteristics of American and British cultures第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Pronunciation TipsThese English pronunciation tips will help you get the most out of your Pronunciation Power program? 36 For example, “threw” and “through”, although spelled differently, are pronounced the same.
