Knowledge objectives To read the passage about giant pandas and get the main idea of the whole text.To get the students to learn some words and phrases, get to know the growth of giant pandas and how to protect them.2Ability objectives To identify specific meaning by scanning the text to train students reading ability3. Moral objectivesTo encourage the students to do as much as they can to help the wild animals.To activate the students awareness of protecting wild animals and the nature.Teaching procedures:1. Pre-reading(1) A guessing gameT: Good morning, boys and girls. Last class we have learnt many names of animals. Do you remember them?Good. Lets play a guessing game,ok?I will ask one student to say something about his favourite animal. The others please guess what it is. (Ask four students to talk about their favourite animals)(2) .Present new wordsT: You are very clever. Do you want to know my favourite animal?My favourite animal is very lovely. It is black and white. It usually lives in China. Itsfavourite food is bamboo shoots and leaves. They live in the forests or reserves What is it? Ss: its T: Do you know why I like giant pandas best ? Because giant pandas are very lovely. They seldom eat meat or hurt other animals. (showing them some pictures of pandas to talk about their appearance , food and living conditions. At the same time teaching the new words and phrases and writing them down on the blackboard)2. While-reading(1) Reading T: Here is a story of Xi Wang, a very lovely giant panda. Would you like to read it with me? Now open your books, turn to P.60. Scan(快速阅读) and find out the main ideas.Paragraph 1-3:t he growth of a pandaParagraph 4: the problems of pandas Paragraph 5-6:take actions to protect pandas(2) ListeningT: Now , listen to the tape about the growth of Xi Wang and finish P.59B2 (While listening , students watch a video of about a baby pandas growth.) T: Now listen to the tape about the problems of Xi Wang? Then encourage the students to finish T or F.(1) It is easy for pandas to live in the wild now.(2) It is difficult for pandas to have babies.(3) A few baby pandas die when they are young.(4) Giant pandas live mainly on a special kind of grass.(5) Giant pandas may not have a place to live or food to eat because the bamboo forests are becoming smaller and smaller.T: listen to the tape about how to protect them.After listening, lets play a game(Divide in 2 groups,-boys and girls. You can choose any number. If you choose a right way to protect pandas, you will get 10 points. If you choose a wrong way, you will lose 10 points.)After playing a game, lets fill in the blanks on P 60 B(3) Practice T: Xi Wang has come to us and hold an interview .One student act as Xi Wang, all the others act as interviewers and ask her any question you are interested in. You may interview Xi Wang like this: A: Hello! Miss Xi Wang? Where are you from?B: Hello! Im from Sichuan. And you?A: Im from C : Hello! Miss Xi Wang, How many members are there in your family?A: D : Miss Xi Wang ,Why is the number of your buddies so small?A: (problems)F: Miss Xi Wang, Do you hate people? /Do you want people to help you?A: G: Miss Xi Wang ,What do you want people to do?(actions)A: (Students practice in groups )Then ask some able students of each group to talk in front of the class.3 Post-reading(1) Discussion Hold a further discussion : Why do we call her Xi Wang? Find another name for her. ( students discuss the problems freely and heatedly ) .(2) Enjoying a song Lets enjoy an old song Panda Mimi , If you can sing ,you may sing after the video. (Play the video for the students to watch and listen and sing after it)4. SummaryT: Today we get to know the story of Xi Wang and learn that pandas , the treasure of China are in trouble like many other wild animals because of human beings. Pandas and other animals are our friends . We should take action to help them because helping them is helping ourselves.
