The teacher plays a video to arouse Ss interests. Then play the video again and give them a question: What is he /she doing? Then answer with “He is reading a book” “She is sleeping” to review the present progressive tense.2. Then show some pictures to lead in the present progressive tense., and ask Ss the structure of it: am/is/ are + doing3. Then present some pictures to lead in the past progressive tense, and make Ss compare it with the present progressive tense, the structure is: was/were +doing 4. Then show them some short videos and make them practice: What was he/she doing?He/ She wasWhat were they doing?They wereStep 2 Presentation1. Use some pictures to teach the new words: heavily; rainstorm; alarm; go off and so on.2. Show some pictures and make Ss speak out: Where were they when the rainstorm came? to lead in the phrases: on the street; at the bus stop; in the library; in my house.Step 3 PracticePre-listening: 1. Work on 1a.2. Listen to the tape player and work on 1b.3. Check the answers.4. Work in pairs to practice: What was he/ she doing at the time of the rainstorm?He/She was walking homeWhile-listening:1. Guess what happened to the boy.2. Talk about the pictures one by one.3. Work on 2a and do the listening. Remind Ss to catch the time order while they are listening.4. Check the answers and get ready for 2b.5. Listen again and finish 2b. Remind Ss to pay attention to “did/ was/were doing” while they are listening.Post-listening:Retell the story. Make Ss work in groups and try to retell the story. After practicing, Ill have some groups report to the class.Step 4. Production1. Make an interview. Work in groups and make one student is the reporter and another one is the boy and try to make an interview about what happened to the boy yesterday.2. Ask some groups to report to the class.Step 5.
