Some college graduates choose to work as village officials. 1.Do you think it is a good idea? 2.What can they offer the countryside? 3.What can they gain from their village positions? 1. College Graduates Work as Village Officials There is no denying the fact that it is a hotly debated topic today how college graduates should choose their careers. Some time ago, it was reported that some college graduates chose to work as village officials. To this peoples attitudes differ sharply. Some hold the positive view while others are against it. As far as I am concerned, I believe that it is a wise choice. On the one hand, college graduates can contribute a lot to the development of the countryside. First, they can apply their professional knowledge there. Secondly, they can introduce new concepts to the countryside and speed the development of rural culture. As a result, the gap between the city and the countryside can well be bridged. On the other hand, these graduates can benefit a lot from working as village officials. While too many college graduates are fighting for the handful of positions in big cities, these graduates can find themselves a wider stage of development and realize their value. Therefore, college graduates working as village officials is a win-win choice and more graduates should be encouraged to work in the countryside.“真维斯楼”,针对类似的以商业品牌为大学中的设施冠名的现象谈谈你的看法。 1. Naming University Buildings with Commercial Brands Recently, a teaching building in Tsinghua University was named as “Jeanswest Building”, “Jeanswest” being the name of a leading casual wear brand. In the wake of the event, a huge uproar was triggered nationwide. People in and outside Tsinghua University expressed their outrage, denouncing its authorities for allowing the university to be contaminated by commercialism. To a large extent, such indignation is justified. Almost all Chinese universities are established and financially supported by the government. As public institutions, they are expected to concentrate solely on educating upright students and performing independent research. Commercialism has been carefully warded off so that neither universities nor their students would become money-oriented. Therefore, many fear that, if commercial encroachment is allowed to happen to a top university like Tsinghua University, rampant commercialism would extend to all universities across China. However, no specific laws or regulations prohibit individuals or corporate organizations from making donations and having their names inscribed on certain facilities. In fact, some universities have already done so. Investigations show that, in Tsinghua University itself, there have been three precedentsthree buildings in the School of Journalism, the Medical School and the School of Electronics have been respectively named after their donators. In the United States, this is a common practice and perhaps we have not yet grown accustomed to it. A key factor in this controversy involves the need to scrutinize the motivation behind each donation. On one hand, we shouldnt dampen the enthusiasm of individuals and corporate organizations to perform their social responsibility by making generous donations. On the other hand, we shouldnt indiscriminately accept donations that carry explicit commercial intentions. Additionally, the management of the collected funds should be transparent, ensuring that the funds are exclusively used for educational purposes. In this way, donations are bound to produce positive outcomes. 8. Should the Golden Week Holidays Be Abolished? There is no denying the fact that the introduction of the Golden Week holidays in China has considerably promoted the development of the nations economy and touring industry and enriched peoples life. People around the country have spent more time and money traveling and relaxing themselves. As every coin has two sides, the Golden Week holidays have also brought about piles of problems. For one thing, due to the fact that people across the country are spending their vacations during the same period of time, it is terribly crowded almost everywhere: trains, buses, hotels, scenic spots, etc., which have ruined peoples mood for vacations. For another, some businessmen take advantage of the weeklong holidays and raise the priced of commodities and services. Personally, I believe that it is necessary for people to have long vacations, but there is no need for them to have the vacations during the same period of time. Instead, they should be allowed the freedom to arrange their own vacations. Only in this way can they really relax and refresh themselves for a new round of work. On Fabricating Academic CredentialsEtymologically, the word “credential” derives from “credit” and is related to the moral attribute of credibility. An academic credential reflects a students academic knowledge and expertise, with which he becomes qualified for performing certain professional responsibilities at certain professional positions. Academic credentials shouldnt be falsified because false credentials are dangerous. For example, a medical graduate with false credentials can kill his patients rather than rescuing them. Currently, fabricating academic credentials is particularly rampant in China, where all recruitments seem to involve credentials. In order to secure the job they want, some job seekers without the required credentials have no alternative but to have them fabricated by professional forgers. While condemning users of fake credentials on both legal and moral grounds, we somehow tend to sympathize with them as they are victimized by a society addicted to the credential mania.A more despicable form of credential fabrication is perpetrated by those already highly successful peoplebusinessmen, entrepreneurs, government officials, celebrities in the entertainment industry, etc. They use false credentials not so much to advance their careers as to project their personal image as an icon. This is a greater evil because those fabricators contrive, through fraudulence, to secure our admiration and respect on the spiritual level. A most notorious case is the scandal of TxxJxx, who pretends to be a role model for innocent Chinese youth, with false Ph.D. credential from a non-existent American university. To solve this problem, a combination of measures is necessary. We should evaluate a person by his true caliber, not solely by his credentials. Legally, we should crack down on both the seller and the buyer of false credentials. Finally, we should keep exposing and denouncing fabricators so they can no longer fool us. In this way, our society will become purified and credibility will ultimately prevail. Say “No” to Plagiarism A crucial skill students must develop at college is the ability to conduct independent research. Having accumulated fundamental knowledge, students should develop themselves into thinking and inquiring individuals capable of forming their own judgment and expressing their original insights, both in term papers and graduation theses. Unfortunately, with massive information readily available on the Internet, irresponsible students find it so convenient to copy, partially or even completely, the research performed by others. Without declaring due acknowledgements, they pretend the research is by their own efforts and they secretly congratulate themselves on the good grades they obtain. Worst of all, they seldom have a guilty conscience because such plagiarism is so pervasive. However, the consequences are more serious than those plagiarists could imagine. For one thing, their personal credibility is ruined. College years are the most formative period in a students life and deception could be a serious stain on ones moral integrity. For another thing, without effective research experiences, one is unlikely to acquire depth of analyses or originality of insights, both of which are indispensible to ones career development, whether in corporate, government or academic organizations. Ultimately, the plagiarists themselves are to suffer. To eradicate plagiarism, several measures could be adopted. Students need to heighten their moral standards by realizing that plagiarism is not just an academic issue but a critical moral issue. Teachers need to be more vigilant in detecting and combating plagiarism. Finally, university authorities need to tighten disciplinary codes to leave no plagiarists unpunished. In this way, universities can produce graduates who can be paragons of credibility, capable of playing a leading role in the credibility reconstruction of the entire nation. Vocational education or college education ? The number of people who take the college entrance examination has been decreasing these years. Some people consider vocational education an advantage to job-hunting, while others argue that a college diploma is more important. ln my opinion, college education is more advisable or most people. 4lFirst, college education is systematic and students can learn a lot in many aspects. Unlike vocational, which always focuses on just one job skill, college education enables students to develop different po-tentials.15lSecond, to obtain a higher degree, such as a masters degree, one has to go through college education to a bachelors degree first. In a society where any job skill may become outdate-ed quickly with the appearance of new technologies, the limitations of vocational education prove even more serious. Only college education can prepare us for future challenges. Nowadays, the phenomenon of drunken driving has arouse wide concern among the public Especially the young generation living in metropolis(大都市), tend to drive after drinking, ignoring the fact that this behavior may pose underlying threat to (对产生潜在的威胁)their precious life and may even endanger (危害)others. Generally speaking, there are several reasons accounting for this phenomenon. Firstly, the absence of consciousness (意识的确实)of driving security may be one of the leading causes. people participate in more activities or banquets than ever before(比起以前), where they will drink strong wine(烈酒). Then, they may get drunk but continue to drive. Secondly, relevant laws and regulations may not have been strictly enforced (严格实施)to warn people not to drive after drinking. Drunken driving is bound to generate severe consequence if we keep turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to it(视而不见,听而不闻). Firs and foremost, this behavior will directly threaten the safety (威胁的安全)of drivers, passengers and pedestrians, resulting in traffic accidents, injuries and even deaths. Besides, treating the injured and repairing broken cars means a grievous waste of (令人可悲的浪费)money, time and resources. In view of the seriousness of this problem, effective measures must be taken before things get worse. First, it is essential that the supervisory role (监管的作用)of laws and regulations should be strengthened to impose heavy penalty on (严惩)those who drive after drinking. Secondly, a more extensive education campaign (更大规模的教育活动)should be launched to arouse the publics consciousness of the importance of driving safety. With these measure adopted, I strongly believe that drunken driving will be things of the past(成为过去式). Water Shortage No one can have failed to notice the fact that water shortage is a grave problem with which the whole world is confronted. Actually, it has become so widespread that it has severely affected peoples daily life and hindered the development of the global economy. A number of factors could account for the problem, but the following might be the critical ones. First, with the development of agriculture and industry, an increasing amount of water is needed. Secondly, the ever-increasing population is another leading cause of water shortage. Besides, the global tendency of warming up also contributes to the problem. Whats worse, pollution and waste of fresh water aggravate the situation. In view of the seriousness of the problem, effective measures must be taken before things get worse. First, it is essential that laws and regulations be worked out and enforced to protect water resources. Secondly, people should enhance their awareness of saving water. With these measures taken, it is reasonable for us to expect a brighter future. 3、我对网络教育的评价the newly-coined word“online education”may by no means(不) sound strange to most people. During the past several years, hundreds of online education colleges have sprung up (涌现)around China. Why could online education be so popular in such a short period of time?(短时间内)For one thing, If we want to catch up with the development and the great pace of (快的步伐) modern society, we all should possess an urgent and strong desire (急切而强烈的欲望)to study, while most people nowadays are under so enormous pressures that (处在如此大的压力下以至于) they can hardly have time and energy (时间和精力)to study full time at school. Furthermore, online education enables them to save a great deal of time on the way spent on the way between home and school. Last but not least, the quick (快速的)development of internet, which makes possible (使之成为可能)all our dreams of attending class on the net, should also be another critical(关键的) reason. Personally, I appreciate this new form of education. Its indeed a helpful complement (补充)to the traditional educational means(方式,方法). It can provide different learners with more flexible and various(灵活多样的) ways to learn. Most of all, through online education, we can stick to our jobs and at the same time study and absorb the latest knowledge考公务员热 The Craze of Entering the Civil Service For over a decade, the craze of Chinese college graduates taking qualifying examinations to become civil servants has remained unabated. An important proportion of graduates view civil service as their top priority in job selection and they spare no efforts in preparing for those examinations, sometimes years before their graduation. To some extent, this craze is a modern revival of the ancient notion that “those who excel in academics end up in officialdom.” In the present-day China, however, there are complicated reasons underlying this phenomenon. The jobs in sectors other than civil service are insecure and unstable, and employees have to work under greater stress faced with growing competitions in the workplace and the industry. Some government departments are related to monopolized industries and civil servants can enjoy unusually high salaries and welfare benefits. Finally, government officials are usually regarded as occupying the highest rung of the social hierarchy and a student who succeeds in becoming government official is considered the pride of the family, adding prestige and glory to the entire clan. For all the apparent attractions of the officialdom, the craze of entering the civil service is a distorted one. In the United States, truly ambitious students enter the industry instead of civil departments, where they apply their individual initiative to achieve personal success. It has already been pointed out that, with so many best minds of the nation fighting their way into the civil sectors, the consequences are catastrophic. The civil servants system, with its inherent bureaucracy and rigid rules, would inevitably turn the otherwise energetic and aggressive young people into docile followers of their superiors instructions and dutiful but mediocre impl
