Try to set aside some time every day for your studies when your brain is most receptive. Its better to study for 30 minutes every day than for 3 hours once a week. If you can spare two or three hours a day, break them up into some periods to avoid brain overload. Go over each lesson several times, perhaps once in the morning, once in the evening and once several days later. Give your brain time to digest the material, but make sure the gaps between periods of studies are not too long or you will forget most of what youre trying to learn. Make sure you have mastered the contents of one lesson before moving on to the next. Make sure youre comfortable with the basics of the language before learning the more advanced knowledge. It will take you some time to get used to the pronunciation and spelling of a new language, but without a solid understanding of these, youll find it very difficult to learn more. Setting reasonable targets is a good way to motivate yourself. You could set yourself a time limit or aim for a certain level of proficiency (精通). Once you have mastered the basics of the language, learn to apply them about the things that interest you. In this way you are more likely to remember the words, phrases and grammatical constructions you meet. You will find that at times youre making fairly rapid progress, while at other times you seem to stand still or even go backwards. This is normal when learning a language, so dont be discouraged. Making mistakes in a foreign language is nothing to worry about. What matters is getting your message across, not whether you use all the right words, tenses, cases, etc. If you cannot think of the exact words, try using other ones. 36. How many tips does the writer give about learning languages in this passage?A. Four. B. Six.C. Seven. D. Nine.37. Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the authors opinions?A. You should learn the language once as long as possible.B. Youd better set a reasonable aim before you start.C. You should often review what youve learnt.D. You should practise the language while learning it.38. The last two tips of learning a language are mainly about _.A. the mistakes when you learn a foreign languageB. the things you shouldnt do when you meet with difficultiesC. the reasons why we make mistakes while trying to apply itD. the reasons why we make little or no progress while learning it39. We can infer from this passage that the author of this passage is probably _.A. an outstanding artist B. a brilliant politician C. an extraordinary explorer D. an experienced teacher B Every person has a unique experience and a story to tell about his school life, so do I. We had great fun in growing and learning. Every year we were taken to different places for our school picnics. I was never able to go to these tours but I enjoyed every word of the stories told by my friends. When I was in Grade Eight, I won a couple of prizes in drawing and school competitions. We were also given many projects as class assignments that helped all of us to know more about the subject. I was very fond of cricket (now in football). My friends and I played cricket in the school campus after school, but at the same time, we all used to get lots of scolding from our headmaster. Every Saturday we used to have our P.T. exercise, and frankly speaking, nobody in my class, even me, had ever liked this. As I reached Grade Nine I realised that I should concentrate on my studies as the next year I was going to take my Board exams. The most memorable day in my life was the day when we held the farewell party for our seniors. Well, now I am in Grade Ten and all set to write my Boards in March. Whenever I recollect all these incidents of school life, I feel very happy and in everybodys school life, I think there are many ups and downs that mould(浇注) ones life. School is a place where all of us learn to care and share. “School” is not just a place, but also it is a large dome made up of knowledge, love and affection. I think in everybodys success, school plays a key role. I can describe my school in “Three Ss”, they are: Small, Sweet and Simple. 40. From the second paragraph we can infer that _. A. all the students could take part in schools picnicsB. the author didnt behave well beforeC. the author was very bad at his studies D. the school didnt approve of students playing on the campus41. At school, the author is good at _.A. drawingB. cricketC. footballD. composition 42. The underlined phrase “ups and downs” probably means “_”.A. favorite and boring subjects B. lucky and unlucky personsC. good and bad experiences D. high and low spirits43.What would be the best title for the passage? A. I am good at playing football B. We should study hard C. My life at school D. What a school meansC Here are three techniques officers I met used to prepare for their job interviews. They could help you do well in your job interviews.1. Role-Play Some of the officers I spoke to meet every week to study and conduct model interviews with each other. They ask the most difficult questions possible and comment each other on their answers. Most job candidates(候选者) fail to prepare enough. Preparation means more than simply reviewing possible questions in your head. It means sitting across from someone playing the role of the questioner. It means practising answers to every possible question.2. Command Attention People make impressions about you in the first 90 seconds of your conversation. Thats not much time for conversation; its your body language that communicates your abilities. Confidence begins with a firm handshake and eye contact. Enter the room with a warm smile and keep solid eye contact. During the conversation, feel free to break eye contact briefly but keep eye contact for 80% to 90% of the conversation. It reflects confidence and control. Your body speaks volumes before you open your mouth; make sure its leaving a positive impression.3. Dress the Part When deciding on what to wear, pay attention to your body type and your hair color and skin tone. Complement(弥补) your body type with clothes that fit properly. Also complement your skin tone and hair color. If you have gray hair, a gray shirt and a gray suit will make you look gray. Add some color to stand out.44. From the first technique, the author wants to _.A. show us how to offer job hunters interviews B. explain how to play a role in a movieC. tell us how to prepare well for a job interview D. introduce how you can find the places of job interviews45. From the fourth paragraph, we can know that _.A. it is very important for a job interviewee to leave a positive impressionB. a job interviewee must use more body language than written or spoken languageC. job interviewers can have a positive impression on the applicants who keep silentD. body language is much more important than written or spoken language46. According to the part “Dress the Part”, which of the following opinions is TRUE?A. Job interviewees should wear dresses in colors against their skin or hair.B. Job interviewees shouldnt hesitate to show their weakness or ugliness.C. Job interviewees mustnt add any color to make themselves stand out from others.D. Job interviewees can complement their body shortcomings with their dresses.47. We can find this passage most probably _.A. in a science fictional bookB. in a sports newspaperC. on a website of a job market D. in a health handbook DWomen dont talk more than men. Really, they dont. Women speak 20,000 words a day, compared to the average mans 7,000. But a study published recently denies this old rule. Both men and women use about 16,000 words a day, says the new research in Science magazine. “Its been a common belief, but it just didnt fit,” says James Pennebaker, the researcher of the seven-year study. Pennebaker and his colleagues analyzed (分析) recorded conversations of 396 university students age 18 to 29 in the USA and Mexico, including 210 women and 186 men. The study didnt look at vocabulary or word use, but rather word count. Pennebaker says two-thirds of participants spoke 11,000 to 25,000 words a day, with the average for both sexes about 16,000 words. The finding may seem surprising in a popular culture where women are often thought of as talkative and men as silent. Most recently, psychiatrist (精神病学家) Louann Brizendine used the 20,000 and 7,000 comparison in her 2006 book The Female Brain, as evidence for brain differences. After the book came out in August, the data was widely reused. “That hits a nerve (神经). Its been surprising to me that this little point is the point people pick out,” says Brizendine. But experts in neurolinguistics(神经语言学) thought that the data was uncertain. Mark Liberman, a linguistics professor at the University of Pennsylvania, says that after Brizendines book came out, he tried to find evidence to support her claim, but failed.48. According to the new research in Science magazine, how many words do women use a week?A. 140,000.B. 47,000.C. 112,000.D. 28, 000. 49. What did Pennebaker and his colleagues focus on in their study? A. The number of words people used.B. The structures people used.C. The speed of speaking words.D. The use of words. 50. We can know the comparison used in The Female Brain was _. A. considered untrue by most scientists B. accepted as a truth by most scientists C. seldom reused by others D. considered as evidence for sex brain similarities51. It can be inferred from the passage that at the beginning, Mark Liberman _. A. didnt believe Brizendines data in her 2006 book The Female BrainB. thought Brizendines data in her 2006 book The Female Brain was true C. succeeded in finding the evidence to support Brizendines claim D. cared little about Brizendines claim in her 2006 book The Female Brain E Football, to me, is more than just a game. I have probably learned more valuable lessons from it than from school. When I joined the team freshman year, I didnt realize what I was getting into. Even though I had been playing since fourth grade and knew it was ha
