SulmonaA city of the province of LAquila in the Abruzzo, Italy. It is situated in the valley of the Gizio, in a spacious basin formed by the junction of that river with several minor streams. Sulmona experienced an economic boom in the late 19th Century due to its railway hub and strategic geographic position between Rome and Adriatic coast. This strategic position also made it a target for air raids during World War.2. Second-class carriageIt is the lower class of railway coach carrying passengers. Second Class is the class of travel which is below that of First Class. In the UK, it was renamed to Standard Class by British Rail during the early 1990s.3. A shadow of sympathyIt is a metaphorical ways of saying that there is a slight suggestion or hint of sympathy. Here shadow indicates a small degree of position. Many other words can be used in similar ways. Such experiences are often used in negative statements. Other examples are:(1) There is not a shadow of doubt that he stole the money.(2) In the cynical words there was indeed a grain of truth.(3)The strength of love is big enough to cause the person to forget all, but actually as small which cannot hold just a sand of envy.Text B1. GettysburgSeat of Adams County, southern Pennsylvania. It is tourist center and has industries manufacturing processed food, footwear, textiles etc. Gettysburg is famous as the site of the decisive Battle of Gettysburg (July 1836),one of the bloodiest encounters of the American Civil War. It is a place in Pennsylvania where a very important battle in the American Civil War took place in July, 1863. Many men were killed on both sides, but the battle led the way to the Union winning the war.2. Fluvanna CountyCounty located in the U.S. stateofficially, “Commonwealth”of Virginia.3. William ShakespeareWilliam Shakespeare (26 April 1564-23 April 1616) born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, was an English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the worlds pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called Englands national poet and the Bard of Avon. His surviving works, including some collaborations, consist of about 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and several other poems. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. 4. Confederate states of AmericaConfederate States of America,also known as the Confederate States, CSA, confederation or Dixie (popular saying) - is divided by the United States of America out of the country from 1861 to 1865. It is located in North America, from the southern part of todays geographical composition of the United States.5. Enfield rifleEnfield rifle is a relatively heavy rifle, not very handy with a hand-held firearms. It was intended as a movement of firearms. Its inside the barrel rifling to give bullet spin wave power. Compared with the musket, it has high accuracy and longer range.6. Blue menIt is referring to the Union armies wearing the blue uniforms7. Julius CaesarGaius Julius Caesar (July 100BC 15 March 44BC) was a Roman general and statesman and a distinguished writer of Latin prose. He played a critical role in the gradual transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire.8. NapoleonNapoleon Bonaparte (French: Napolon Bonaparte puis Napolon Ier napole bnpat) (15 August 1769 5 May 1821) was a French military and political leader during the latter stages of the French Revolution.As Napoleon I, he was Emperor of the French from 1804 to 1815. His legal reform, the Napoleonic Code, has been a major influence on many civil law jurisdictions worldwide, but he is best remembered for his role in the wars led against France by a series of coalitions, the so-called Napoleonic Wars. He established hegemony over most of continental Europe and sought to spread the ideals of the French Revolution, while consolidating an imperial monarchy which restored aspects of the deposed ancien rgime. Due to his success in these wars, often against numerically superior enemies, he is generally regarded as one of the greatest military commanders of all time.3.
