人民教育出版社必修五 畅言教育Unit 4 Making the news同步练习 听力练习蚌埠二中 刘书皖1-20略。 阅读理解阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 AWalt Disney is credited for creating such wonderful things as Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse. However, he cannot take the credit for creating other wellloved characters, such as Cinderella and Snow White. They are almost automatically associated with Disney because Disney turned old fables(寓言) into cartoon movies. The original Cinderella varies very much from the Disney version we know today. It started off with the girl mourning her mothers death and going to her tomb three times a day. In addition, there were only birds that helped Cinderella; there was no such thing as a fairy godmother or helpful mice, nor was there mention of a horse and carriage. The stepsisters were cruel: they always threw Cinderellas food into the ashes of the fire, and made her sleep on the ashes on the floor, hence(因此)her name.In the original story, the kings ball actually lasted for three days. With the help of the birds, the girl, beautifully dressed, danced with the prince on all three nights and the prince fell in love with her. However, she broke away from him to rush back home each night. On the last night, the prince placed something sticky on the stairs; as Cinderella made her escape, a shoe got stuck on it.Here now is where the story becomes unpleasant: when the prince went to the house looking for the girl whose foot fit the shoe, the wicked(邪恶的) stepmother told one of her two daughters to cut off her big toe to fit into the shoe. The daughter did as told. So the prince took her away to be his bride. But, when they passed the tomb of Cinderellas mother, the birds called out to the prince,“Turn and peep, theres blood within the shoe; The shoe is too small, the true bride waits for you.” Realizing he had been tricked, the prince returned the daughter to her mother. The other then had to cut off part of her heel in order to fit into the shoe, with the same result. Only Cinderellas foot fit perfectly and so the prince chose to marry her. The story ends with the wedding day; as Cinderellas two stepsisters followed her, pretending to be devoted to her so that they could enjoy the kings riches, two birds flew by and plucked(啄) out their eyes. Because of their wickedness and falsehood, they had to spend the rest of their days blind. The original Cinderella is so different from the Disney version. Thank goodness Disney made such changes; it indeed was a wise move.21What does the underlined word “They” in the first paragraph refer to? _ASuch wonderful things. She began skating when she was five, and entered and won her first figure skating competition at seven. She won the world title in the 1994 World Championships at the age of 13, and earned a spot as an alternate (候补者) for the 1994 Olympic Games. Kwan went on to capture the world title in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2003.At the Nagano Winter Olympics in 1998, Kwan was believed to win gold, but ended up with a disappointing silver medal when fellow US skater Tara Lipinski surprisingly took first place. Shortly before the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in 2002, Kwan, who was then the reigning world champ, surprisingly fired both her choreographer (编舞者), Lori Nichol, and longtime coach, Frank Carroll. Once again, she failed to get the gold medal when she finished third behind Irina Slutskaya of Russia and US skater Sarah Hughes, who took first. As a student at the University of California at Los Angeles, Kwan has continued to compete since her defeat (战败) in Salt Lake City. In February 2006, she was unable to take part in the Olympic Games in Torino, Italy because of a serious injury. Though Michelle Kwan did not compete during the 20062007 figure skating season, she has turned down an offer to work for NBC Sports and says she is not retiring.25The underlined word “capture” in the first paragraph means “ _”Aenter Bwin Clearn Dfind26What happened to Michelle Kwan in 2002?_ _AHer coach didnt want to train her any longer.BShe went to study at the University of California.CShe failed to take part in the Olympic Games in Torino, Italy.DShe failed to win the gold medal in the Olympics again.27Which of the following may NOT be a world champ? _ _ALori Nichol. Please read the following passage.Escaping a fire is a serious matter. Knowing what to do during a fire can save your life. It is important to know the ways you can use and show them to everyone in the family, such as stairways and fire escapes, but not lifts. From the lower floors of the buildings, escaping through windows is possible. Learn the best way of leaving by windows with the least chance of serious injury. The second floor window is usually not very high from the ground. An average person, hanging by the fingertips will have a drop of about six feet to the ground. It is about the height of an average man. Of course, it is safer to jump as hort way than to stay in a burning building.Windows are also useful when you are waiting for help. Be sure to keep the door closed. Or smoke and fire may be drawn into the room. Keep your head low at the window to be sure you get fresh air rather than smoke that may leak(渗漏) into the room.On a second or third floor, the best windows for escape are those that open onto a roof. From the roof a person can drop to the ground more safely. Dropping onto cement (水泥) might end in injury. Bushes(灌木丛) and grass can help to break a fall.28It is important to _.A. put out the fire in the burning houseB. know the ways to escape the fireC. jump off a burning houseD. keep the door closed29It is possible to escape through the windows if_A. there are some bushes on the groundB. you are strong enoughC. you live on a lower floorD. you have a long rope30Which of the following escaping ways is NOT right? _A. No news is good news, and good news is no news. Those are the classic rules for the evening broadcasts and the morning papers. But now that information is being spread and monitored(监控) in different ways, researchers are discovering new rules. By tracking peoples emails and online posts, scientists have found that good news can spread faster and farther than disasters and sob stories.“The if it bleeds rule works for mass media,” says Jonah Berger, a scholar at the University of Pennsylvania.“They want your eyeballs and dont care how youre feeling. But when you share a story with your friends, you care a lot more how they react. You dont want them to think of you as a Debbie Downer.” Researchers analyzing wordofmouth communicationemails,Web posts and reviews, facetoface conversationsfound that it tended to be more positive than negative(消极的), but that didnt necessarily mean people preferred positive news. Was positive news shared more often simply because people experienced more good things than bad things? To test for that possibility, Dr. Berger looked at how people spread a particular set of news stories: thousands of articles on The New York Times website. He and a Penn colleague analyzed the “most emailed” list for six months. One of his first finds was that articles in the science section were much more likely to make the list than nonscience articles. He found that science amazed Times readers and made them want to share this positive feeling with others.Readers also tended to share articles that were exciting or funny, or that inspired negative feelings like anger or anxiety, but not articles that left them merely sad. They needed to be aroused(激发) one way or the other, and they preferred good news to bad. The more positive an article, the more likely it was to be shared, as Dr. Berger explains in his new book, “Contagious: Why Things Catch On.”32What do the classic rules mentioned in the text apply to?_ _ANews reports. BResearch papers.CPrivate emails. DDaily conversations.33What can we infer about people like Debbie Downer?_ _ATheyre socially inactive.BTheyre good at telling stories.CTheyre inconsiderate of others.DTheyre careful with their words.34Which tended to be the most emailed according to Dr. Bergers research?_ _ASports news.BScience articles.CPersonal accounts.DFinancial reviews.35What can be a suitable title for the text?_ _ASad Stories Travel Far and Wide.BOnline News Attracts More People.CReading Habits Change with the Times.DGood News Beats Bad on Social Networks. 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Taking good notes is a timesaving skill that will help you to become a better student in several ways. 36 Second, your notes are excellent materials to refer to when you are studying for a test. And the brain remembers how to “lock onto” the important sounds, 63,our ears may not work as well as we age, and that helps us to hear better.A scientist, living in France twenty years ago, 64 (write) about what he called the “Mozart Effect”He said that 65 could be helpful to the brain when listening to the classical music of Mozart. Some researchers said that Mozarts music would make you much 66. (smart), or even have some health disorders 67 .(cure). Others said that there was nothing special about Mozarts music. Any kind of high energy music would work. So if the cost of a musical instrument or music lessons is too costly, can we get 68 same brain experience just by listening?Usually people have teachers, or they can teach themselves music. 69 , the point is that theyre actively playing a musical instrument and engaging in making music instead 70 listening to music passively. Dear Mr. Green, Im very exciting to learn that you will start a magazine together.
