A research about college students part-time jobAbstract Many college students do part-time jobs during their leisure time for some reasons and aims. They may choose to teach middle-school students as tutors or act as a salesperson for some companies in the campus and so on. In this thesis, the present situation of the college students who do part-time jobs will be investigated and studied in detail.Key words college student part-time job study ability Text 1.1 The reason of doing this surveyAs a college student, we cant emphasize the importance of our professional study. But, apart from study, it is very important for us to develop other abilities by taking part in all kinds of activities or doing some part-time job. No doubt that there are some arguments about part-time job. Some people, especially some parents are strongly against it while other people hold the opposite opinion. Facts are stronger than arguments. Do a survey to know the present situation of the college students about part-time job is quite necessary and worthwhile. The research may tell us more about it in a relatively accurate and convincible way.3.1 The source of dataTo study the subject more objectively, I designed a questionnaire and handed out 100 copies out randomly in teaching-buildings. And I reclaim 100 valid copies at last. The main questions in the questionnaire are as follows. Whether they are doing a part-time job or not? Why and when do they do a part-time job? What kind of job do they do? And so on. For more detail, please look at the appendix at the end of this thesis.3.1 Analysis of the data in this surveyCollege is a place for students to study rather than to earn money. All students should spare no effort to learn knowledge. But the present situation is that quite a few students take a part-time job for different reasons and aims. According to the data I sort out from the 100 copies of the questionnaire, I write down the following five points.3.2 How many students are doing a part-time job and why?According to the data I get from the questionnaire, there are twenty seven percents of the college students have the experiences of doing a part-time job, and among them there are five people who often work at their leisure time after class. From this information, we can see that more than a quarter of the students have the experience of spending their time on works outside of the class. Why do so many college students choose to work after class rather than go to the library at read books，do some exercise to build up their body or just take rest to refresh their body and soul. Why do they challenge themselves to work while they can just study their professional knowledge and enjoy the happy college life? The reason differs for different people. The first reason is that the tuition fee for college is beyond some parents paying ability. It makes quite a few students try to earn money in order to reduce their parents heavy burdens. We all know that China is developing at a very high speed .People are getting richer and richer. The government is investing more and more money into education. However, the fact is that the tuition fee is getting higher and higher, especially for the senior high schools and colleges. We had to admit that the income of many families is still very low comparing it with the level of nowadays consumption. And it is very hard for the parents to afford the tuition fee. This situation is quite common in the vast rural area. The statistical data shows that about 22 percent students who do part-time jobs have to earn money, at least to pay for the daily expense. As far as I know, some students can even earn enough money to pay all the cost including the tuition during the four years college life. Of course it is very hard for these students to do so.Most of the students just work to enjoy the process of practice. Stay inside the campus all day long may narrow our horizon. We know little about the out side world if we dont work in the society. We can hardly learn anything else except the knowledge from books if we only read all day long. Over 50 percent of the students who have a half-time job say that theyd better develop their practical abilities and accumulate all kinds of experiences before they graduate from school and go into the society. When they are working, they get more chances to know all kinds of people, and maybe they can also be friends. They can also meet a lot of problems and have to deal with them with friends help or just deal with them independently. All these things would change themselves and make them more mature and independent .In addition, most of them would learn to be punctual and responsible for their jobs, and these qualities are very important for their future development. In a word, these students think it is worthwhile spending their time on working, and it will make their life more colorful and fully. The rest of these working students once are quite interested in part-time jobs. They work just because they want to feelings of working and fulfill their curiosity. So they wont work frequently for a long time and spend much time.3.3 How do they get the job?As an adult, we all know quite a lot of people. Some of them are new friends and some are our acquaintances. We should treasure the relationships between them because these are very powerful nets which can help you to succeed. In the survey, I learn that there are about 15 percent of the students who do part-time jobs get their jobs by their friends or schoolmates recommending. As far as I know, it is easy to get a job for college students as long as he or she wants to work .But it is also true that most of the undergraduates are work for a relatively low reward, and they are even seen as cheap labor power. So, if you want to get an ideal work, it will be a little hard. Thus, if some of your friends can introduce you a good work, it will be a happy thing. Maybe it is hard for some students to get a job or they just want to get a job quickly. There are 33 percent of the college student get their part-time job mainly through some intermediary. To some extent, it is a good choice to ask for an intermediarys help. In this way, you can get a job very conveniently. For example, if you want a part-time job and dont want to cost much time and efforts, you can simply write posts on a BBS, or search some intermediary websites for a part-time job. Maybe you can get the job you want immediately; maybe you can receive a phone call asking you to work very soon. However, ever coin has two sides. Job hunters can be cheated by the intermediaries sometimes. For the inexperienced young college students, it is a little easy to be cheated and suffer from the loss of money and time if we are not careful. Whats more, we are often asked to pay extra fee for the intermediarys help whether we get a job or not. It will be a tragedy if we dont get a job and earn nothing after paying the fee. 3.4 What kind of part-time job do the students do? From the survey, I learn that college students are doing variety kinds of jobs, ranging from distributing leaflets to teaching as tutors. It is obvious that different jobs need different kind of abilities. And to some extent, how much can you learn depends on what kind of part-time job are you doing. On the campus, we often see some students are handing out flyers on the road or at the gate of dinning room. Obviously, handing out flyers is the most common and the easiest work among all the jobs. And according to the statistical data, about 80 percent of the students who do part-time jobs have this experience. First, there are many undergraduate-oriented shops or institutions. To catch more consumers attention, they usually employ students to hand out flyers with their advertisements on them. On the one hand, this way is very effective; on the other hand, it cost relatively less money comparing with other ways. For the student, this work is not bad. First, they can do it at any time they want and wont be restricted by the curriculum schedules. Second, it is very easy for them to seek this kind of work. Third, they can earn money quickly although they cant earn much at one time. Apart from the points above, there is a very serious shortcoming of handing out flyers. It can hardly promote us since it doesnt need any skills or abilities. Earning money by doing this work will sacrifice a lot of precious time. No matter why some students do it, in fact they dont like it.Apart from distributing flyers, working as tutors is also popular among college student, and it is about 30 percent of the students choice. If some one is asked that which way is the quickest way to make money in a large amount for college students, the most probable answer is teaching senior high students as a tutor. He will earn about 40 yuan or more an hour and he can teach more than ten hours each week. For some students who stay at school the whole summer holiday or winter holiday, they can earn thousands of yuan during that period. No doubt that, this work needs a lot of effort and its also very time-consuming. Tutors should cost some time to prepare before they teach their students. They need a lot of qualities such as being responsible and intelligent if they want to teach for longer time as accelerant teachers. Apart from the two popular works mentioned above, there are many other choices for the students. Such as school agent, salesman, hourly employee and so on. Different people may have different choices according to their abilities and aims.3.5 What kind of difficult do they meet? Over 70 percent of the students have met some difficulties, and few students go off smoothly. Some employers just purposely make difficulties for the students. Some students think that sometimes they are not qualified to do the part-time job. Facing those difficulties, some students may try to overcome them, some students may dont know what to do and just quit the work. No one can succeed easily. When we meet the difficulties, we get chances to promote ourselves if we diligent and conquer the difficulties. 3.6 What do part-time jobs bring to college student besides money?Doing a part-time job may make some students suffer from a few negative effects. First, working occupies a large amount of time and energy of the students especially for those who do several part-time jobs at the same time. Over 30 percent of the students suffer from the shortness of time. Some students have a lot of classes during the day time. It is very hard for them to find much time to do other things. Some of them skip classes to work and some students work at weekends and holidays. No matter how efficiently they use time, their study is influenced by the works. Second, about ten percent of the students are troubled by the bad mood affected by the jobs. Third, for some students the relationships between others are affected because of the profit. Fourth, a few student complain that it is very tired to study and do a part-time job at the same time. If not necessary, they dont want to do so. Despite of the negative effects, part-time jobs benefit most of the students. The competition is becoming more and fiercer nowadays. Companies and other institution need comprehensive enterprise talent. To remain invincible in the future, we should not only learn our professional knowledge and skills well, but also pay attention to our practical abilities. Doing a part-time job is a chance for us to accumulate all kinds of experiences. Regardless of the economic condition of the students, it can broaden our horizon and promote our abilities to deal with all sorts of problems. In addition it can help us to be independent earlier and strengthen our sense of responsibility for the society. We cant neglect our study and spend all the time in doing part-time jobs, but we can make full use of our leisure time to work. The earlier we know much about work, the better we will know how to be an excellent worker or leader after we graduate from college.3.7 Parents attitude towards their children.As experienced middle-aged men, their attitudes are worthy to think about seriously. About a quarter of them support their children to practice in the society. There are about 20 percent of the parents are quite opposed to it. The result is reasonable. The majority of the parents are doing a certain work. Some of them think that their children should know how to work before they graduated from school. Some parents pay more attention to knowledge than abilities, so they hope their children spend most of their time in reading and studying. In addition, taking a rest at leisure time is better than work somehow.4.1 Conclusi
