Do you know anything about Yang Liping?Key: Yang Liping (1958 - ), a famous dancer, is the director and star of a performance art show called Dynamic Yunnan that has drawn sellout crowds all over China. Ever since Yang Liping won first prize in a national dance competition in 1986, she has been delighting Chinese audiences with her signature dance, Spirit of the Peacock.2. Look at the following pictures and identify the types of dances.Keys: classical ballet; Chinese folk dance; tango; ballet; waltz; Cha-Cha. 3. Where and when did ballet begin?Key: Ballet began in Italy and France during the Renaissance (文艺复兴时期).4. What kinds of folk dances are famous in China?Key: Dragon dance, Lion dance and Yangge.导入二:中国的民间舞蹈形式多样,舞姿优美,不仅深受国人的喜爱,也登上了国际舞台。Chinese folk dance celebrated in USChinese folk dance is being celebrated both inside and outside of Chinas territory. The traditional art form is winning legions of fans world wide. Lets take a look at a dance class at the New York University. Its given by an American, who says Chinese dance has become part of her life.Backed by melodious Chinese folk music and clamorous drum beats, students of different cultural backgrounds and ethnicity enjoy practicing the movements of Miao ethnic dances that theyve learned from their teacher. The scene is a Chinese folk dance class at the Tisch Art School of New York University. Students show great zeal to learn a different culture through dancing.Brian dargiewicz, said, Were trying to just understand different cultures and you know, get a feel of how other cultures are expressing themselves through movements.Shayan cooper, said, I think I definitely changed a lot.Although they are learning a dance form that is one hundred percent Chinese, their teacher, Aly Rose, is one hundred percent American. She does have a beautiful Chinese name - Luo Hongmei. Graduating in 1996 with degrees in psychology and dance, Rose came to China. She settled in southwest Chinas Guizhou Province, where she was captivated by Chinese ethnic dancing. In 1999 Rose pursued her interest, coming to study at the Beijing Dance Academy, majoring in choreography. She was the only foreign student that year. Rose graduated with a Masters Degree three years later and has worked at the Beijing Dance Academy ever since.Phoenix, a contemporary dance epic choreographed by Aly Rose in 2006, created something of a sensation in Chinese dance.
