1.题目:Contain public libraries is a waste of money, because computer technology is already replaced its function. Do you agree or disagree? 范文:While this statement is true for most of generations as they are easy to find relevant web articles, they do need the knowledge for goofing (internet surfing) to be able to search the information in terms of effectiveness and efficiency. However, imagine that one neither have computer skill nor IT knowledge, this statement may be too harsh for them. The main purpose for a public library is not only borrowing books but also to serve the communitys needs, such as, book club, read hard copy of magazines and newspapers, seniors getting together. This benefit provides by the public libraries in our society should not be underestimated. The computer technology has no doubt at all replaced most of function, that is, we can read books from the academic database; newspapers and publishes from almost everywhere, this means that we do not need many hard copies and environment friendly for the earth. However I am not so much convinced that public libraries can replace other functions that we need other than providing information or books. The important issue we need to recognize is that there are not many population who can use computer to serve their needs, and even may not afford to own a computer. Some of them are using the public libraries for reading the large print books; others are coming to relax for reading magazines with friends; and the others may just come for a cool spot in a hot summer. Governments in the world are trying to improve nations lifestyle in every aspects, in this case, how can it be satisfactory to say that take away a public library by replacing a computer is improving our quality life. To some extent, do you agree or disagree, and why? What does the significant role of education play in the cultivation of children? It is generally believed that education should function as a pattern which makes students well-educated and full of knowledge. However, I argue that education should make people mature and learned in and out of class. It is the international news class that broadens and widens the horizons when students are being asked some big issues. When recently lots of people concern about the Iran nuclear issue, some secondary school students, or even college students say: “its none of my business, just kick this out of my mind, its not that serious.” But what if you saw the international news report about 1986 Chernoby Nuclear Accident, the human disaster, you would probably say that let those nuclear plans shut down. Therefore, international news can drive the information and events which later students experienced similarly can use to be more intellectual and mature. Moreover, students can learn something very important beyond book knowledge from the international news, such as general compassion. For instance, a couple of months ago, there is a beyond-thought tsunami attacking eastern Asia, including Indonesia, Thailand, and parts of Malaysia. After this near-death experience, great help comes from all over the world, from which the main make-up is student. The example is simple, but tells great: Students look at the pictures and desperate faces of the people there from international news, which triggers their feelings, and then they begin to realize what a wonderful life they have and should shine a beam of light on these poor people- compassion. Generally, students learned how important to show compassion to others. To sum up, international news class appeared to be a way of wasting time, but students learned. They would probably tell you how their lives changed after this class. And I assert that international news class should be there, in the secondary schools. 3.Topic:Should criminals be sent to prison or should they do something else as a punishment? Explain your opinion and give your reasons.sent to a jail:The world would be in great chaos and full of blood and violence. It is the best deterrent to crime. They will think twice before they commit a crime. The decline of crime has a direct correlation with the implementation of the practice. It serves a just reward for the heartless and merciless malefactors while a great spiritual comfort to the victims family. The abolition of the practice will send out a misleading message that anyone can kill and get away with it.I am in favor of the former view that we should retain the time-honored catholicon to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment to all these law-abiding citizens. An old saying best expresses my attitude:“Mercy to the criminal many be cruelty to the people.”make up for, dangerousIt is hard to guarantee that they have really repented of their crimes. If it turns out (结果发现) that they just pretend they repent and start anew and actually they commit crimes again, the loss and the damage to the victims will be irreparable. And also, if the police want the behaviour of the criminals to be under control, they have to spend money and time in supervising the criminals after they are set free. Furthermore, once the criminals commit crimes again, it will take the police much trouble to catch them.It is a great deterrence for many potential criminals. Compared with the deprivation of freedom, letting the criminals do something else as punishment is too mild.It makes the violent robber think twice before pulling the trigger(扣动扳机).Otherwise, it will send out a misleading message that anyone can kill and get away with(逃脱处罚)it.4.Nowadays we are producing more and more rubbish. Why do you think this is happening? What can governments do to help reduce the amount of rubbish produced?I think it is true that in almost every country today each household and family produces a large amount of waste every week. Most of this rubbish comes from the packaging from the things we buy, such as processed food. But even if we buy fresh food without packaging, we still produce rubbish from the plastic bags used everywhere to carry shopping home. The reason why we have so much packaging is that we consume so much more on a daily basis than families did in the past. Convenience is also very important in modern life, so we buy packaged or canned food that can be transported from long distances and stored until we need it, first in the supermarket, and then at home. However, the amount of waste produced is also a result of our tendency to use something once and throw it away. We forget that even the cheapest plastic bag has used up valuable resources and energy to produce. We also forget that it is a source of pollution and difficult to dispose of.I think, therefore, that governments need to raise this awareness in the general public. Children can be educated about environmental issues at school, but adults need to take action. Governments can encourage such action by putting taxes on packaging, such as plastic bags, by providing recycling services and by fining households and shops that do not attempt to recycle their waste. With the political will, such measures could really reduce the amount of rubbish we produce. Certainly nobody wants to see our resources used up and our planet poisoned by waste.5.题目:Some people think that personal happiness is directly related to economic success. Others argue that happiness depends on completely other factors. Discuss both of the views and give your own opinion. In recent years, the discussion of whether personal happiness is directly associated to economic success has become a controversial issue. Notions toward it differ widely from person to person. Some people believe that happiness is related to economic success because only money can make peoples life more enjoyable. When it comes to economic success, the majority of people believe that money means a luxurious life. To begin with, if someone owns great success on economic, that means he can spend more money on whatever he likes and spend more time on his hobbies. Emotionally, money can buy happiness at least to some extent. That is to say, you can buy things that you like in order to fulfill your needs and vanities and this makes you feel happier. You can also enjoy the best education and social welfare. Thirdly, economic success implies high social class and status, which can make people feel happy and respectable. (51)Opponents, however, hold the view that happiness does not depend on economic success but completely other factors. First of all, numerous studies show that happy individuals are successful across multiple life domains, including marriage, income, work performance and health. The happiness exists not only because economic success makes people happy, but also because positive affect engenders happiness. Whats more, It is indisputable that there are millions of people who still have a miserable life and have to fact the dangers of starvation and exposure, but some of them sill lead a happy life because they keep the happy spirit. Last but not least, money can not buy everything, such as friendship, true love and health. You can buy things corporeal, but you can never spend money to ask for more time. In the final analysis, both sides have sound foundations. However, if asked to make a choice, I will not hesitate to assent to the latter. I firmly believe that happiness is not only related to economic success but also links to other factors which are much more significant. 6.Topic: Should government invest poor population or hi-tech research.Government investment has been put on more and more emphasis since peoples gradual awareness of its importance. The discussion of whether the government should investigate in Hi-Tech products or on poor people become fierce among different people. In my opinion, this is a dilemma which cannot be easily decided. However, the poor people should be concerned first.People is the most fundamental aspect to form the society, thus they deserve more emphasis. It was our ancestors who first lit a fire with wood and bring light and culture to this world. And it is due to this, society was gradually formed and developed as we can see today. We can not ignore the significant role that people play in the long history of this world, therefore, as the central machine of country, government is responsible for every person in the society, and it should concern those who are poor and give them necessary help.In addition, poverty will make the society unstable. Because of poverty, many people tend to steal or rub with the purpose of making a living, which highly increase the crime rate. Being desperate, some of them become more assailable, with their brain full of resentment and envy. As a result, they find killing an innocent person or lit a fire on others house is a good way of releasing their anger, and thats what we often see in the news. If our government dont investigate on them, we can not imagine what our society will be like. Moreover, using a lot of money on Hi-Tech in a country which still has a large poor population is a waste of money. To produce a large number of Hi-Tech products will certainly lead to the result of detaining in stores because people have neither money nor emotion to enjoy the luxuries. When poor people are making every effort to make their ends meet, the government have no reason not to give a hand in them but put money on wasteful research or explore on Hi-Tech products. To sum up, investigating on poor people benefit overweigh using money on Hi-Tech products. It is better to make poor people rich first, and then enjoy the pleasure that Hi-Tech bring to us.7. Since cities have changed a lot, the size of the cities has grown enormously. Discuss the causes and consequence of the enormous size of cities.Nowadays, the maps of cities are updated frequently. With the development of city, more and more suburbs become parts of the city. When the cities in the world are amplifying constantly, people discuss the topic hotly, the causes and consequence of the enormous cities. Different people have different answers by their respective views. In my opinion, the evolution of society and the development of economy result in the growth of the vast size of cities. Since the number of population in every city is increasing continually, people need a large amount of space to live in. With the progress of the technology, the output of crops rises sharply. Fewer and fewer farmers are required, as a result, more and more villages urbanize. The growth of the cities brings us many huge changes. There are more job opportunities in the cities. For instance, China will hold the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008. The government is amplifying the size of Beijing to build new gyms in order to hold it excellently. Obviously, people in the cities could gain a lot of new jobs. Of course, the enormous size of cities also has bad effects. Pollution is becoming more and more serious all over the world with the amplification of the cities. For example, the poisonous gas sent off by factories and automobiles has made the air unhealthy for people to breathe. Water waste keeps pouring into rivers and lakes; as a result, many water species are dying out. Furthermore, more people the city have, more rubbish we can find.In a word, since each coin has two sides, we should be acquainted clearly with the reasons why the size of the cities has grown enormously and what it will bring us. Thus, we could make full use of the positive effects and overcome the negative effects.8. Nowadays, international tourism is the biggest industry in the world. Unfortunately, international tourism creates tension rather than understanding between people from different cultures. To what extent do you agree or disagree? International tourism is booming: millions of tourists go to other countries to explore the outside world. Tourism enhances the mutual understanding between the local people and tourists. Some people hold opposite opinions. They think that international tourism causes tension rather than promoting understanding between people from different cultures. The people holding the latter view suppose that tourists are likely to offend the local people because of the lack of knowledge of the local customs, which differ from their own. Moreover, tourism inevitably harms the natural resources and the cultural legacy, which may lead to the resentment of the local people. However, I can hardly assent to this idea: the above mentioned rarely happens. In my opinion, international tourism does encourage the understanding between people from different countries. For one thing, without going to see for themselves, people may never know what other countries are really like and thus can be misled by hearsay or films and TV programmes, which, more often than not, are one-sided. For instance, one of my American friends told me that most Americans had a strange bias against the Russian people until some young Americans traveled to Russia and saw with their own eyes that the Russians are human beings just like them. Another example is that, with the development of Chinese tourism, people outside China start to realize that Chinese men no longer have long braids and Chinese womens feet are of normal size now. Secondly, having seen the fine scenery or experienced the rich culture of other countries, tourists will have the desire to develop a good relationship with the locals, which certainly contributes to the understanding between them.In conclusion, instead of causing tension, international tourism furthers the understanding of people from different countries. To what extent do you agree or disagree?Nowadays, plenty of employees who are more than 55 years old must retire because of company policy; therefore, many people think that the development of a company cannot be separated from the number of young employees. The above point is certainly true; this essay will outline three reasons. The main reason is that plenty of young employees mean that the company is infused with lots of young blood. With the development of technology, more and more new technological products have been developed. The new generation masters advanced technology and have the energy to exploit. They have learned lots of knowledge in the university; therefore it is definitely useful for the development of companies. Another reason is that old employees cannot adapt themselves to the rapid pace. Old employees find it difficult to learn new things rapidly. With their limited physical strength, they are not capable of heavy manual work. So old employees are not a patch on young employees, it means not only intellect but also physical strength. Last but not the least reason is that old employees have already worked for more than half of their lifetime, so they should retire to enjoy life. The old employees have already paid out too much in order to look after their families and careers. So they should pursue their hobbies. In conclusion, old employees shouldnt continue working for themselves. Moreover, advancement of society needs a new generation. 10. In recent years, more and more advertisements have been flooding into our lives. Some advertisements exert negative effects on the youth. Therefore some people suggest that advertisements be banned. Do you agree or disagree with this? Give your reasons.Along with the rapid progress of society, the advertising industry has undergone remarkable development. Every day we are surrounded by all kinds of ads and commercia
