学校与学校生活SCHOOL AND SCHOOL LIFE The end and aim of all education is the development of character.Education has for its object the formation of character.I am willing to know the whole truth.There is no darkness but ignorance.Never too old to learn.Ignorance is the mother of impudence.There are two objects in education: first, to develop yourself; second, to gain knowledge.To educate yourself, you must read, study, observe reflect, reason and think. It is the place in which he studies daily, and in which he is trained to be a useful and worthy person some day. But a student will love his school and can feel proud of it, only that his school is regarded by people as a good school; only that everybody is willing to send his children there. A school as such should be famous for its teaching, its sports and games, and its strict discipline. Every graduate of that school is a useful and respected citizen in society. My school has long been enjoying a high reputation, and I have profited much from it. It was about five oclock. The wind was blowing gently and the weather was cool. I put on my sweater to keep myself warm. I looked through the window and found that there was no one in the street. Everywhere it was quiet and peaceful. I took up my books and began my studies. I revised all my previous work in mathematics and English which are the examination subjects for to-day. I learned all the formulas in mathematics and a few important points in English, and studied a few compositions. By then, it was 6 a.m., and my mother got up. She went to the kitchen and lighted a fire to boil some water. She gave me a cup of hot coffee. I drank it and felt warm. She began to prepare my breakfast. I continued to study quietly. At six-thirty, I went to wash my face, took a hot bath, and began to dress up. After breakfast, I rushed to school. Reaching school, I saw all my friends with their books in their hands. I felt I had studied quite enough this morning, and I did not care to study any more, I wanted my mind to have a rest. There are a three-story building for classrooms and school offices, a two-story building for a library and another for laboratory. For dormitories, we have three two-story buildings, one for girls and two for boys. The auditorium is so large that eight hundred students can sit in it without being pressed for room. The dining hall is still larger. One hundred tables are arranged in five rows. The playground is another wonderful sight. It is twice large as a market gardeners plantation. One half of it makes the drill ground for our morning exercise. The other half is divided into five tennis-courts, three basket-ball fields and one football ground. Round the whole ground we have race courses, on both sides of which are planted palm-trees. A swimming pool is under construction. But what delights me most is the school garden. It is at the back of our school buildings. In the entrance stand many tall trees to form an avenue. Then come flower-beds arranged in all kinds of figures. A bower of thatched roof is on the right and a large hot-house of glass on the left. The whole garden is filled with fragrance.
