5 Things Keeping You From Finishing Your Creative Project五大因素:妨碍了你,完成创意项目 As an artist, youre inspired by so many things that you experience, whether it be the newest movie, comic book, video game or museum exhibit, you love to create around the things that get you excited. But many people tend to forget or just plain quit a creative project just days after theyve started. Why? You were so excited before, why not now? Lets take a look at five things that may be holding you back from bringing your awesome ideas to life. Impatience is the bane of creating something amazing. Many times you can start a project and you just want to see something cool pop up on the screen, but it just doesnt work that way. You dont do it intentionally; you just want to feel the same satisfaction that you got from the inspirational source you just experienced. Its just that you want it a little too quickly and its just not feasible.Great art always starts out rough, whether that is a silhouette concept piece or quick sketch of a level. So the next time you start a new project, make sure you understand that your project may be a journey and not quick sprint. Boo! Time management! Whether you like it or not, time management is key to finishing your projects. (Especially, if youre a professional) When starting a new project, you tend to work way too long or not long enough. Sitting at your desk for extended periods of time without a periodic break can be detrimental to your productivity. Over time, the more time you spend with a project, the more you want to get away from it. So why not oblige this natural urge for separation by taking a much needed break. Dont forget to come back though! On the other side to that, not spending enough time on a project will most certainly keep you from finishing. Youve got to work on the project to get it done, because projects dont finish themselves. A good balance that you could try on your next project is to work for one hour, then take a fifteen minute break. Do this as long as you want to work in a single day. So, in an eight hour day you will have taken two hours worth of breaks. That may seem like a lot, but youll find that you do this anyway between going to the restroom, getting a snack, getting a drink and eating lunch. Of course, you should modify how long you work based on your own energy level, but this is a great place to start. If you want to learn more about time management check out this in-depth poston how to become a more productive artist. Scope pertains to the actual size and difficulty of your project. For one person to try and recreate a single city block of Chicago can be a very large task. With a project like that, you have to model the buildings, sidewalks, signs, posts, cars, bikes, parking meters, etc. This doesnt even include laying out UVs, texturing, lighting, rendering and post work. When going into your next project, produce a realistic list of what needs to be done to achieve the goals of your project. Some of it you may not know exactly, but you should still try and get some sort of idea. Too many times, you can jump into a project without understanding the complete depth of your expectations. Everybody does it, but those who finish projects know how to manage that scope and understand approximately how long each project should actually take. SQUIRREL! Its so easy to become distracted while researching a specific technique or tool for your projects. Sometimes you can get caught up in techniques that have nothing to do with what youre working on and before you know it, you just wasted twenty minutes. Twenty minutes may not seem like much, but how many rabbit trails do you chase in a day? That can begin to add up really fast and half of our work day is completely wasted. So how do you get rid of distractions? It depends on what your distraction is. If its the TV, move the location of your work area or simply turn it off. The internet is usually the biggest because its the most accessible. If this is a distraction for you, you could set a timer for how long you spend on the internet. Set it for five minutes and youll find that you can get what you need and get back to your project very quickly, but you have to be willing to adhere to your time limits. Fear of Failure惧怕失败 Fear of failure is a real thing and it can be a show stopper. This happens quite a bit in art contests, especially when artists begin to see the quality of work by other artists. This is the point that you can make one of two choices; you can become fearful of not having the best artwork out there and quit or you can be empowered by the work of others and strive to become a better artist. Youll find that most art communities want to help you by giving you constructive feedback and point you to resources to help develop a new technique. Art is about stepping out into the unknown every single day. Youll learn something new and your artistic ability will grow right before you. So are you going to cower at the possibility of failure or are you going to be empo
