牛津高中英语教学设计单元:Unit 3 The meaning of colour板块:Reading 1Thoughts on the design:本课件为reading的第一课时,着重于对文章的整体性阅读。本课的教学从reading strategy入手,帮助学生找到本文的主题,引导学生对课文内容进行预测和讨论,激活学生大脑中的相关知识网络,使他们处于认知的主动状态,从而产生阅读的愿望和心理准备。接着从我国的国旗所承载的含义入手,一步步了解法国、美国和印度尼西亚三国国旗代表的意义。在教学中首先提出的问题涉及课文的主要事实,其次才是细节性的问题,从而帮助学生构建“自上而下(top-down)的信息加工机制。在帮助学生获取较详细的有关信息后,对信息进行进一步的加工、提升,以培养学生阅读后的语言输出能力。最后,让学生利用所学的知识,为自己的学校设计出一面校旗。Teaching aims: After learning the passage National flags, colours and cultures, students will be able to predict the theme or the topic of an article, with the help of headlines, subtitles and the first or the last paragraphs. The students will also understand that what they already know will help greatly in their reading.Teaching procedures:Step 1 Reading strategy1. Ask Ss to read “Reading strategy” on P35.2. Ask Ss to read the headline and the first paragraph to get an idea of the theme of the article. (PPT 4)Question: Whats the theme of the article? Answer: National flags, colours and cultures.3. Show Ss a picture of many national flags (PPT 5)4. Follow-up question: What does a national flag tell you? (PPT 6)Answers to be found in the first paragraph:A flag tells us something about the country it represents.Explanation本课的教学开门见山,从Reading strategy入手,直接让学生了解到在很多文章中可以从标题或文章的第一段找到文章的主题。本文的主题是national flags, colours and cultures。在学生了解了本文的主题后,紧接着提出下一个问题 “what does a national flag tell you?”,对文章的第一段进行详细的阅读,同时也是对下面教学的衔接。Step 2 Talking about what you already know1. Show Ss a map of our national flag. (PPT 7)2. Questions and answers:(1) Question: What do the color red and yellow in our national flag mean to us?Answer: Red means blood of our soldiers. Yellow means brightness. (PPT 8)(2) Question: What do the five stars mean to us?Answer: The big star stands for the Communist Party, and the four small stars represent the Chinese people. We Chinese people are united around the Communist Party. (PPT 9)3. Discussion: What does our national flag mean to us Chinese people? (PPT10)Explanation遵循reading strategy所提出的thinking about what you already know,通过全体学生都熟知的中国国旗来说明国旗上承载了许多这个国家的文化和历史。Step 3 Reading comprehension of the text1. Ask Ss to read three subtitles and match the country with their national flag. (PPT 11)2. Ask Ss to scan for related information of the French national flag: (PPT13)(1) Read the passage to find about the colours of the French flag: Question: What do the colours red, blue and white stand for on the French flag?Answer: Red shows the bravery, revolution, strength and blood of the French. Blue stands for liberty and justice. White represents peace and honesty(2) Read to find more about the French flag:Question: What do the three colours remind people of?Answer: Liberty, equality and fraternity.Question: What is “liberty, equality and fraternity” called?Answer: Motto of the French Revolution.3. Ask Ss to scan for related information of the USA national flag: (PPT 14)(1) Read the passage to find about the colours of the USA flag:Question: What do the colours red, blue and white stand for on the French flag?Answer: Red represents strength and bravery. White means purity and innocence. Blue stands for hard work and justice.(2) Read the passage to find about the meaning behind the pattern of the USA flag:Question: What do the stars and stripes mean?Answer: The 50 stars mean the 50 states of the USA. The 13 stripes mean the original 13 states. Another name for the USA national flag:the Stars and the Stripes.4. Ask Ss to scan for related information of the Indonesian national flag: (PPT 15)(3) Question: What does the Indonesian flag look like?Answer: A red band over a white one.(4) Read the passage to find about the colours of the Indonesian flag:Question: Is there only one explanation for the meanings of the colours?
