Lead-inAsk students: Did you remember how many golden medals did Chinese team got in this Olympic Games? （32） (Athens)Show the pictures of Chinese player who got the golden medal on the screen and ask students to try to tell the names. Ask students to tell the International Sports Stars they know. Show the famous stars and ask students to say their names. Ask them to write down some of them to the blanks in 1aStep 3 1b Show the famous sports star on the screen and ask students to say the information they know of this famous sports star. Eg: Who is he/she? What does she like doing? When is her/ his birthday? Call attention to the four pictures in 1b. explain the first one to students: Deng Yaping is a ping-pong player. She was born in 1973. Write down “born” on the blackboard. Say, we are going to hear 4 conversations about the year the sports stars was born. Listen carefully and write the date each person was born under each photo. Play the tape twice. Check the answers.Step 4 1c Ask students, when were you born? (Point out “in” and “on”) “I was born in 1991.” “I was born on May 1, 1991” Call attention to the conversation in 1c. Ask 2 students to read it to the class. Say, this conversation is about Deng yapping. Now talk about the other sports stars in 1b. Move around the classroom to check the progress. Give any necessary help as needed. Get several pairs to say their conversations to the class. Step 5 Summary Today we have talked about the year the sports stars were born. And we learnt to know sth about them. They are exceptional people. Rome was not built in one day. They have spent years of hard work to achieve that. So work hard from now on. Maybe some day you will always be asked when were you born? And your birthday will be known to everybody. Homework:1. Make two conversations a
