Unit 8 Section A 2a-2d1. Analysis of the Teaching MaterialThe topic of this unit is a picnic. In this unit, students learn to make inferences.Such topic is helpful to activate students imagination and improve students ability to deduce. Either less or more advanced students will be active in the activities in class. So its useful to improve students spoken English and communicative competence.This period mainly introduces the key vocabulary and the target language to students. Through listening and oral practice, students learn the exact meanings of the words must, might, could and cant. 2. Teaching Aims and DemandsClass Type: Listening, reading and speakingObjectives: 1.To understand the relationship between things and persons by listening.2. To read and understand the dialogues.3. To practice talking about the conversations.Key structure: 1.Whose book is this? It must be Marys. J.K. Rowling is her favorite writer.2. Look! Theres a schoolbag here. Whats inside? There is 3. Whats wrong?4. I cant remember Difficulties: How to practice talking about the conversation about persons and their things by using “must, might, could, cant”.Vocabulary: Whose, truck, picnic, rabbit, attend, valuable, pink, anybody, go to the picnic, at the picnic, belong to, pick up3. Procedure:1).Lead-in: Show Ss some pictures with sentences.Ask Ss to practice making conversations.E.g.: A: Whose is it?B: It must/might be .4).Step2. Activity 2c. To guess the owner of the things in the schoolbag.5).Step3. Activity 2b. Listen and write down the things in the schoolbag.Listen again and fill in the blanks.6).Step4. Brainstorm.(1).Use “must” to show that you think something is probably true.(2)Use “might” or “could” to show that you think something is possibly true.(3).Use “cant” to show that you are almost sure something is not true.7).Step 5. Show Ss the knowledge about the modal verbs.8).Step6. Exercises about the modal verbs9).Step7. Activity 2d.Read the passage and answer the questions.10)
