It might be a car crash.S2: I think something must have broken.S3: It could be some books falling on the floor.S4:.T: How do you feel when you hear a strange noise?Ss: I feel nervous/ worried/ scared/ uneasy/ curious.when I hear something unusual/strange/terrible.The teacher shows the picture in 3a.T: Do you think what time it is now?Ss: It must be at night because we can see the moon.T: Can you see the lady in the house?Ss:T: Is she happy or worried?Ss: She is worried.T: The lady is worried. So something is happening in the town at night. Today were going to read 3a and find out what has happened . Step3 While-reading3a T: Please read the black words in 3a: read the article and decide which might be the best title. A. A Small and Quiet Town B. Strange Happenings in my Town C. Animals in Our Neighborhood. Whats happening in the town? Read 3a quickly and choose the best title.Check the answer: B. Strange Happenings in my Town Read 3a again and answer the questions:1. What are the strange happenings in the writers town? (Something unusual is happening in our town. Every night we might hear strange noises outside our window.)2. Who was interviewed by the town newspaper? (Victor, a teacher at my school was interviewed by the town newspaper.)3. Who gave opinions about the strange noises? (Victor and his friends, Victors wife, the policemen, Helen-Victors next-door neighbor, one woman in the area, the writer himself)Read it for the third time. What are their opinions/ ideas? Using Context. Using the sentence context may help you guess and learn the meanings of new words and phrases. For example, animal like a very large dog wolf I think it was too big to be a dog. Maybe it was a bear or a wolf. Step4 Post-reading Students retell the article with the help of the chart in 3c.Listen and repeat after the tape.Deal with the language difficulties.Notes:1. Nothing much ever happened around here. However, these days, something unusual is happening in our town. My parents called the policemen, but they couldnt find anything strange. There must be something visiting the homes in our neighborhood. teenagers having fun玩闹的十多岁孩子something visiting the homes在我们街区逗留的某物;闯入了我们住宅的某物 在这两个短语中,都是现在分词短语作定语。它们与被修饰词的关系是逻辑上的主谓关系。单独的现在分词做前置定语;现在分词短语做后置定语。E.g. The sleeping girl is my younger sister. Who is the woman standing by the door?3. One woman in the area saw something running away. see sb. doing sth. 看见某人正在做某事 ( 强调动作正在发生)see sb. do sth. 看见某人做某事 (强调发生的整个过程)e.g. I see mom cooking in the kitchen. 我看见妈妈正在厨房做饭。 Lucy said she saw me do the housework. 露西说她看见我做家务了。4.
