Teaching Plan for Listening Skills -Prediction,Note-taking &Guessing. Teaching objectives:l To activate the vocabularies about traveling.l To enhance their listening skills of prediction, note-taking and guessing.l To cultivate their view of seeing the world on journey. Analysis of students The class is conducted under the circumstances of students background knowledge of traveling. Therefore, they are familiar with the topic, which lower the difficulties while listening. They have difficulties in doing listening exercise, especially the ones requires taking notes and calculating. By taking this class, they can improve listening skills and get ready for the exam. III. Analysis of teaching material The teaching materials are all about traveling, such as destination, transportation, places of interest, luggage and attentions. The students will be very interested in the listening materials. IV. Difficult and important points1. Important points:1 Vocabularies about traveling 2 Listening skills of prediction, note-taking and guessing.2. Difficult points:1 Taking notes and calculating V. Teaching aids: multi-media, blackboard, music, pictures, ppt. VI. Teaching procedure: Step 1 Warming up1. Listen to a song Far away from Home , and fill in the missing lyrics. Step 2 Brainstorming 1. After listening to a song, lead to the topic of traveling, then ask students tobrainstorm destination, transportation, places of interest, luggage and attentions about traveling. Finish a mind-map. Step 3 Presentation 1. Listen to the materials about destination, transportation and places of interest and match the right picture. 2. Show students the skills of prediction before they listen to the materials. l The purpose of the activity is to teach students the necessary listening skill of prediction. 3. Listen to the materials about luggage and attentions and choose the right answers. The materials are about booking hotels, prices of tickets, time of arrival and leaving. l The purpose of the activity is to teach students the necessary listening skill of taking notes.4.Listen to a passage and answer five questions about the above content. l The purpose of the activity is to consolidate students skills of prediction and note-taking by listening to the content they have just practiced. 5. Listen to a passage and fill in the blanks. After listening to the information, introduce the guessing skill to the students. l The purpose of the activity is to teach students skills of guessing according to the information offered. Step 4 Consolidation 1. Listen to a passage and fill in the blanks. l The purpose of the activity is to consolidate students skills of prediction, note-taking and guessing. 2. Play a game Boys and girls have two chances to choose two numbers. Each number has different listening tasks. If they answer the questions right, then they can get different points according to the difficulties of the listening materials. l The game is to consolidate students skills of listening and at the same time let them learn in a relaxing way. Step 5 Summary l Summarize the class by reviewing the three kinds of listening skills of prediction, note-taking and guessing.
