Section B (2a2e)Beauty in common things (Reading)成都市实验外国语学校(西区) 尹红一、教学目标 1. 知识与技能目标:1)让学生掌握以下单词: its, form, clay, balloon, scissors, lively, fairy, heat, polish, complete 2)让学生掌握以下句型: They are made of bamboo and covered with paper. According to Chinese history, sky lanterns were first used by Zhuge Kongming. They are seen as bright symbols of happiness and good wishes. After drying, they are fired at a very high heat. 2. 情感目标: 帮助学生了解我们国家一些地方知名的传统艺术品的制作过程以及制作材料,培养学生的民族自豪感及爱国主义精神。3. 过程与方法: 通过阅读课文,获取相关信息,提高学生的综合阅读能力;通过复述短文,提高学生的语言概括能力;通过阅读后谈论观点,提高学生的语言表达能力。二、教学重难点1. 教学重点:1)掌握本课出现的生词及用法。2)阅读短文,获得相关信息,提高学生们的综合阅读能力。2. 教学难点:阅读训练和复述课文。三、学情分析 中学生对中国传统艺术文化有关的风俗习惯和文化背景很感兴趣,本文介绍了中国最具特色的传统艺术如孔明灯、剪纸和泥塑等,在培养学生阅读能力的同时,可以拓宽学生的知识面和提升民族自豪感,对学生跨文化交际意识和能力的培养也有很大的作用。四、教学过程Step I. Greetings and duty report: The duty reporter first shows a picture of her friend Lucas who is interested in traditional Chinese culture to the students,and ask students to recommend some places in Chengdu which is famous for traditional Chinese culture to him. Then the reporter shows a video about Lucas trip to Jinli Ancient Street. Let other students watch the video and answer two questions: How many traditional art forms are mentioned in that video? What are they? Finally the reporter introduces the traditional art forms mentioned in the video in details.Step II. Lead-in:T: The duty reporter has just introduced some traditional art forms to us. Do you want to know more? Today, we are going to learn a passage about traditional art forms. Please turn to page 38 and find them.Step III. Before reading:1. Teacher asks students to look at the three pictures in the passage and answer what traditional art forms are introduced.2. Make predictions: Teacher asks students to look at the title of the passage Beauty in common things and the three pictures, then predict what common things are mentioned and what beauty refers to.Step IV. While reading 1. Fast reading:1) Read paragraph 1 and answer: What common things are mentioned in the passage?2) Read paragraph 2-4 and answer: What does beauty refer to?3) T: Why do Chinese people turn common things into objects of beauty? What do the traditional art forms try to show? Read paragraph 1 and answer.4) Read the whole passage and find out: which paragraph is the general introduction and which paragraph is the specific details and examples? Reading strategy: from general to specific2. Careful reading:1) Paragraph 1 : read together loudly and explain the new word form and the new phrase be turn into(show Ss some pictures and ask them to make sentences). Eg. Flour can be turned into noodles or bread. T: What are the objects of beauty? Lets look at the first one.2) Paragraph 2: Read carefully and answer the questions about sky lanterns. Q1: Who used the sky lanterns first? Q2: What were they used for before? Q3: What are they used for now? Q4: What are they made of? Q5: What symbols are they seen as? Q6: How can they fly? Check the answers and explain the new words and phrases with pictures. Retell this paragraph by using the key words. T: Sky lanterns are made of paper? There is another traditional art form which is made of paper. What is it? -Paper cutting.3) Paragraph 3: Read carefully and fill in the blanks with the information about paper cutting. It_ _ _ for over _ years. The most common pictures are_, _, and things about _ _. It is made of _ _ . The pictures are put on _ _ _ _ during the Spring Festival. They are symbols of _ _ _ _and a_ _ _. Check the answers and explain the new words and phrases with pictures. Retell this paragraph by using the key words of the answers. Activity : do paper cutting. T: How can we do paper cuttings? -The red paper is folded, then it is cut with scissors. T: Is it difficult or easy to do? Lets do it. Students work in groups of four and cut out different shapes by using scissors. T: Lets come to the third traditional art form.-Chinese clay art.4) Paragraph 4: T: How can we turn clay into clay pieces? Read carefully and find out the process of making clay pieces. Retell the process by using the key words. T: Besides the process, what else is introduced in paragraph 4? Read carefully again and complete the mind map of clay pieces. Check the answers and explain the new words and phrases with pictures. Introduce clay pieces by using the information.Step V. Post reading: 1. Teacher introduces more traditional art forms in China: embroidery, shadow play, Chinese knot, kite making and Beijing opera.2. Activity: discuss in pairs Look at all the pictures of the traditional art forms we have learned today, and answer the question: How do you feel about these special forms of traditional art?Discuss the question with your partner and tell us your opinions.3. 情感升华: (After students talk about their opinions) T: We know that traditional art forms are the fortune of our country.
