Lesson PlanPEP Go for it 7B Unit5 Why do you like pandas?Students: Class 11, Grade 7Lesson Type:listening and speaking Duration: 45 minsTeacher: 洪唯荫The analysis on the teaching materialThe teaching material is the listening and speaking part from unit5 with a title of “Why do you like pandas?” This unit is quite simple for students because students have learned the main sentence pattern in last term. This lesson is the first period, so it lays solid foundation for Ss learning the target language of the whole unit.The teaching material mainly concerns with the topic of expressing their preferences and describing animals. This topic is closely related to our daily life, so it is not difficult for Ss to understand the text. Though some words such as beautiful, Africaare quiet new to them. It is also the first time for them to use the structure “Where are from? They are from” So these are the anticipated difficulties.The analysis on the learners The students are from Grade 7, but this is their second term. So they may have accumulated certain vocabulary and language skills. Whats more, they are so interested in new knowledge and good at imitating, so it is not difficult for Ss to understand the text. Some of them, however, are still afraid of speaking English in front of the class. In this way, T should pay attention to their individual difference and encourage them to communicate more in the class.Learning objectivesBy the end of this lesson, students will be able 1. Language knowledge to spell, pronounce and grasp the meaning of the new words such as tiger, giraffe, panda, etc.to use the new sentence structure to ask about others preferences and the reasons.2. Language skillsto listen for key words:why, because and listen by using context.to improve their intonation by imitating.to communicate with their classmates and talk about their favorite animals.3. Affectsto understand the importance of making friends with animals.4. Pre-reading Activity 1:Warming up and lead in Show a music video: Old MacDonald had a farm. (In this video, many animals appear.)Teacher asks three questions:1. What can you see on old MacDonald farm?2. Which animals have the moo sound?3. Where can you see more animals?T: Today lets imagine that we are going to a zoo. And I will be your guide. Now let me show you more animals. Teaching Notes Audio-visual teaching method is applied to introducing the topic and attracting Ss attention by watching a video. The atmosphere will be activated by free talking. By introducing the animals on the farm, teacher can lead the topic to the animals in the zoo. Ss background knowledge will be activated, which will get them mentally prepared for comprehension.Step 2. Presenting and practicingActivity 1:Guessing game Show students part of the animal pictures or the sound of some animalsT: Listen! Which animals have this sound?Ss: Lions!T: This animal has a very long neck. Whats this?Ss: Its a giraffe.Teach all the words about animals in this way.T: Among all this animals, do you know what my favorite animal is?Ss: Is panda your favorite animal?T: Yes, youre right. I like pandas because theyre very cute.T: Do you like pandas?Ss:T: Why do/dont you like pandas?Ss: BecauseT: Now lets see the tigers. What do you think of tigers? I think they are kind of scary.Teach all the description words.T: What animals do you want to see first? Do you like? Why do/dont you like? Activity 2:Pair workAsk students to ask and answer like this:A: Lets see the first.B: Why do you want to see them?A: Because theyre very /kind of/ reallyB: But I likeA: Why do you like them?B: Because theyre veryA: OK. Lets go!Teaching Notes Two activities here are designed to make Ss proficient with the target language. Guessing game can activate the atmosphere and deepen Ss understanding of the sentence pattern. Pair work can drill their speaking skill. Step 3. Listening and imitating Activity1. Listening and checking (1b)T will guide Ss to listen to the tape and pay attention to the animal words.Activity2. Imitating T will guide Ss to read the tape script.Then Ss are asked to read after the tape and imitate the intonation.Teaching Notes Language focuses: Listening skills and intonationTeaching methods: task-based teaching methodsIntention: The listening activity here is designed to train Ss listening skills by checking the words they hear.
