(It means hope.)(1) The growth of Xi Wang1. Show the students a series of pictures of the growth of a giant panda and they try to find the information about each picture from the text. The students use complete sentences to talk about them in their natural groups first. Each of them should say one sentence. Choose two groups to do so in front of the whole class.e.g. When she was 1 day old, she weighed 100 grams. When she was 10 days old, she looked like a white mouse. When she was 4 months old, she weighed about 10 kilograms and started to go outside for the first time,When she was 6 months old, she started to eat bamboo shoots and leaves. When she was 12 months old, she grew into a healthy young giant panda and weighed 35 kilograms. When she was 20 months old, she had to look after herself and because her mother had another baby.2. Ask the students to find the 3 problems in the text. The whole class read the three paragraphs aloud together.l If hunters catch a giant panda, they will kill it for its fur.l If farmers cut down trees and forests, giant pandas will have nowhere to live.l If people find baby pandas alone, they will often take them away.(3) The actions we should takeThe students work in groups of four and read last two paragraphs sentence by sentence to one another.l Make giant panda reserves biggerl Build more reservesl Encourage farmers to leave the giant panda reservesStudents try to find the relationship between these actions and the problems and fill in the blanks:We need to make the reserves bigger. Farmers are not allowed(被允许) to catch and _ for their fur in the reserves. We can also build _ to stop farmers from cutting _. We should encourage _ the giant panda reserves.
