At first, this yearly event gave attention to peace (in an effort to end World War I) as well as womens rights. Over the years, however, interest in International Womens Day reduced until the 1960s, when the womens movement caused women to think why they werent included in the history books.National Womens History Week is celebratedIn 1978, Womens History Week was started to encourage the teaching of womens history. School officials picked the week of March 8 to include International Womens Day. It was so popular that, in 1981, the US government passed a law making the week a celebration for the entire country. In 1987, a group of women asked the government to expand (扩大) the celebration. That same year, the government announced the entire month of March National Womens History Month._Last year, the firstever national womens history museum opened in Dallas, Texas. The museum brings to life the stories and achievements of 3,000 amazing American women.
