Book review on “Tomorrow is another day.” The main character Scarlett OHara said it at the end of the novel. She lived in the Confederacy and everyone there is for fighting for his or her noble cause. Scarlett is complicated. On one hand, she is vain, rebel, selfish, egocentric, self-centered and self-indulgent; on the other hand, she is imbued with wise, inherited brave, determined, independent, responsible, obstinate and self-striving gleams. All these characters have a deep and determinative influence on her life and love. However, Scarlett cant grasp the heart of Ashley Wilkes, who is out of her control. Scarlett had two sisters, but she was by far the most spirited of the three OHara girls, and her father, seeing her as his successor, taught her lessons about the importance of the land. Scarletts hasty makes her pay a great price! In order to show that she is not “no buyer” to Ashley Wilkes, she get married with Charles Hamilton who she doesnt like. Charles Hamilton, Melanies brother, himself in love with Scarlett, proposes later in the evening, and to hurt Ashley she accepts, then gets married in the head of Melanie and Ashleys wedding. Scarlett marries Charles impulsively simply because Ashley rejects her love. Soon after the war broke out, Charles die, Scarlett become a widow. What a self important girl, she never considers others feelings. All her words and deeds show that Scarletts these characters.War has changed Scarlett, and it also enables me to a better understanding toward her. In the book, Mitchell presented us a ruthless and misery picture of war through Scarletts eyes. War is a hellish way to settle a disagreement The war caused poverty, plague, criminal and panic. The war ruined Scarletts home; the spoiled beauty had to pitch cotton and be the householder. All these tragedies were because of the war. Mitchell told us all these opinions of war from a special female visual angle.Apart from Ashley Wilkes, Charles Hamilton and Frank Kennedy, Rhett Butler was the most important man in her life. Scarlett has her first encounter with the irrepressible Rhett Butler, the cynical, smart hero who eventually falls in love with her. Rhett Butler is a dashing renegade, the man who is rumored to have ruined a woman (whispered in shocked tones among Scarletts companions). But he is a hero at the same time. He jeered the Souths arrogant, but when he saw the soldiers fight bravely to protect their home, he was moved and joined the army immediately. Butler is not a traditional gentleman. He is overbearing and impolitely. He is a man who is full of contradiction which makes him so charming. They are two headstrong likes who simultaneously repel and attract one another. When Scarlett remarks, You, Sir, are no gentleman, Rhetts smiling, easy response is, and youre no lady.After the first husband of scarlet died, he was invited her to dance that made her never upset. When the second husband dies, he perused her dont sorrow, and go down on his knees to ask scarlet marry him. Butler understand scarlet so much that he can bring her so much happy and lucky. After get married, they live a happy life. She is good at math. She opens a little company while the people think that no women can do it.Actually, before undergoing so many difficulties, in Scarletts era, it was mens world, and women accepted doctrines such as the beliefs that men owned the property, while women manage it. Men took the credit for the management, and women praised his cleverness. Men roared like a bull when a splinter was in his finger, and women muffled the moans of childbirth, least she disturbed him. Born in such a society, Scarlett was a rebellious girl. At that time all men felt that the wife should be guided by her husbands superior knowledge, accept his opinions fully and have none of her own. But Scarlett intended to run the mill herself, which was a big shock to her husband as well as other men and women in that county. In fact seldom had man heard of women in business anywhere if women were so unfortunate as to be compelled to make a little money to assist their families in these hard times of war.Therefore, when Scarlett was not forced to do it, when she had a husband amply able to provide food clothes for her. We should learn from Scarlett, her fortitude, calm and wisdom, all of these needs to experience life, need to have a deeply realize about social environment and human environm
