Im very glad to voice my idea of Present Participle. The teaching plan consists of four parts.First, let me talk about the teaching materials.Part I . My Understanding of the Teaching MaterialsAnalysis of the Teaching MaterialsThis lesson is the third part of Unit 12 Modul 4 by Beijing Normal University Publishing Press . The grammar knowledge of this unit is about Present Participle as attribute, predicative, object complement & adverbial. The exercises in Discoving Useful Structures are well designed. The teacher can finish those exercises through playing games and add other exercises if necessary.About the SsAs Senior1 students, they are at different levels of English. They are eager to learn, but some students may find grammar dull and boring. So during the lesson, the teacher can arrange some games to let all of them join in to attract their interest and let them be confident and taste the joy of success.Part II. Teaching ObjectivesAfter studying the teaching materials and analyzing the Sslearning background ,I think the teaching aims are the followings:1.Knowledge objective: To learn the grammartical functions of Present Participle as attribute, predicative, object complement & adverbial.2.Skill objective:To develop the Sss skills of doing V-ing exercises.3. Feeling and attitude Objective :To improve the Sss awareness of cooperation.4.Teaching key pionts and difficult pionts:Key pionts: Present Participle used as Object Complement & Adverbial.Distinguish doing & having done as Adverbial.Conj.+doing structure. Difficult pionts: The use of V-ing. Part III. Teaching Approches and Learning MethodsAccording to the analysis of the teaching materials and the teaching objectives,I will use the following methods .In this period, I will take some teaching methods to help the students understand and master present participle, and further deepen and widen their thoughts .They are: Teaching Approaches:1. Situational approach2. Task-based methods Learning Methods: Coorperation and teamwork Teaching Aids: Multimedia, a blackboard Parts IV. Teaching procedures:Step1. Greetings and lead in. 1. Activity 1: A guessing game: Do you know me?(5 minutes)This is the first time that I have given a lesson to you.I am teaching in Senior 3.I am twenty-four years old. I like playing football.I am an English teacher from Qingyang No.1 Middle School Let the Ss do a guessing a game with the teachers instruction and learn something about the teacher.Purpose: To make myself familiar to the Ss and arouse the Sss interest in the lesson; meanwhile,to help the Ss review their ability of making inference .Effect: The Ss show strong interest in the game.They get familiar with the teacher. 2.Introduction: Do you know it?Qinyang is a beautiful city attracting more and more visitors. With the coming of the holiday, you may find people enjoying their stay in different places, such as Shennong Mountain and Danhe Valley, where the herbs are especially amazing, which are the first choices for families. Show the Ss some pictures about Qinyang city and introduce the city in a few sentences using Present Participle.Purpose: To further arouse the Sss interest in the lesson,and lead in present participle. Effect: They are curious to learn something about the city and are eagar to learn the lesson.Step 2: Grammar1. Presentation:to present Present Participle (5 minutes)a. Qinyang is a beautiful city attracting more and more visitors. (attribute)b. The herbs are especially amazing, which are the first choices for families. (predicative)c. You may find people enjoying their stay in different places.(object complement)Analyse the sentences discribing the city with the teachers instruction and show other examples to find out the use of V-ing. Purpose: Let the Ss have an understanding of the use of V-ing.Effect: The Ss become very interested in the sentences and learn V-ing in a relaxing atmosphere.2. Task 1: Pair Work: Find out the V-ing form and match its function. (2 minutes)1. The news was exciting.(表语)2. We plant trees every year,hoping for a good environment.(状语)3.There are people from all over the word living here.(定语)4. The headmaster found some students playing cards in the dorm.(宾补)Let the Ss discuss the sentences in pairs to find out the V-ing forms and identify their functions.Purpose: By doing this exercise, the Ss can better understand Present Participle and its grammartical functions.Effect: All the Ss do a good job. They become confident and taste the joy of success.3.Task 2 Summary:(group work) summarize the rules of V-ing formsLet the Ss discuss the sentences in groups and draw a conclusion of the grammertical functions of V-ing and the denfinition of present participle,and then report to the class. Purpose: The Ss can have a good knowledge of the denfinition of present participle and its functions.Effect: The Ss have a clear idea of V-ing. They become more confident and eager to study more.4.Further instruction(1). Point 1: V-ing used as adverbial 1. Seeing the old picture, he couldnt help crying.(时间)2. Some big trees were brought down in a typhoon, blocking the road.(结果)3. Following the teachers advice, you are sure to improve your oral English.(条件)4. Not knowing the way to Birds Nest, I turned to the police for help.(原因)5. He had a wonderful childhood, traveling with his mother to all corners of the world. (伴随)Let the Ss read and discuss the sentences in pairs to tell what kind of adverbial the V-ing forms are used as.Purpose: The Ss themselves find out the adverbial using V-ing so that they can have a better understanding of V-ing used as adverbial.Effect: The Ss find it a challege to find out the varieties of adverbial, but with the teachers guidance, they overcome the difficulty and find great joy in the progress.(2) Point 2: doing or having done ?1. My cousin came to see me from the country, _me a full basket of fresh fruits. .(2006安徽卷) A. brought B. bringing C. to bring D. had brought 2. _ to reach them on the phone, we sent an email instead. (2008重庆卷) A. Fail B. Failed C. To fail D. Having failedLet the Ss do the two exercises first and check the answers with the class.let them conclude the tips.Purpose: to better distinguish doing and having done used as adverbial.Effect: The Ss grasp the tip well and improve their skills of doing exercises.(3)Point 3: conj. + v-ing1. If we work hard, we will surely succeed.=If _ hard, we will surely succeed.2. Though _ money,his parents managed to send him to university.A. lacked B. lacking of C.lacking D.lacked inLet the Ss accomplish the exercises and conclude the tips. The teacher instructs them to learn the structure: conj.+doingPurpose: to make the Ss know the cause of the structure: conj.+doing and the tip.Effect: The Ss find it a great challenge,but still some students can work out them according to their language sense. With the teachers instruction, they grasp the rules and gain more confidence.5.PracticeTask 3. Rewrite the sentences using V-ing form.( Pair work)1.The girl who is smiling brightly besides me is from England. 2.They came into the room and they were singing anddancing.3.When her fans heard the news,her fans became wild with excitement.4.As the two girls dont know the way, they unfolded a map and read it5. After he did his homework, the boy went to play basketball.6. The woman shouldnt use her mobile phone while she is driving.Let the Ss change the sentences individually, then check answers with their deskmates, at last check with the whole class.Purpose: to practise using V-ing and better understand present participle and its functions.Effect: The Ss are active in the activity. Meanwhile, they better understand how to use V-ing. Task 4. A competition. (Group work)Make sentences with two phrases which are logically related to each other.walk my dog run much fasteropen the fridge leave the TV onsearch the drawer find some photos have been updated get a better joblook at each other laugh out loudly fall asleep come across a friendread a short text (not) know what to dolearn English well hope to get some foodEncourage Ss to speak out as many sentences as possible. Get students to choose which group is the best group. Purpose:to further practise using present participle and improve their ability of speaking and also develope their team spirits.Effect: The Ss learn how to use V-ing.At the sametime,they improve their awareness of teamwork.Task 4. Appreciate an essay (class work) We are looking forward to the coming sports meeting. We are working hard to prepare for it, hoping that the games will be a great success. Yesterday when walking around our school, I found some shocking environmental problems. I feel very surprised to see some students still throwing rubbish and spitting everywhere.Even some students can be seen picking up flowers in the gardens. It is high time that our school should r
