Unit 4 Dont eat in class.Section A (1a-2d)Analysis of the Teaching MaterialIn this unit students learn to talk about school and family rules.Such a topic is so familiar to students that they must be active in all the activities in class.It is helpful to raise learning interest and useful to improve students listening,speaking,reading and writing skills.The first period introduces some negative imperatives first.Then students are provided with much listening and oral practice using the target language “What are the rules?”Teaching Aims and Demands1. Knowledge Objects1) Master the new words:rules, arrive, late, hall, dinning hall, listen, listen to, fight, sorry 2) Master the sentences: Dont eat in class. You must be on time. Eat in the dining hall. 2. Ability ObjectsTrain students listening, speaking,reading and writing skills.Train studentsintegrating skills.3. Moral ObjectAs students,we must obey school rules.Teaching Key PointsLearn the key vocabulary and the target language. Learn the imperatives and the words “can” and “have to”.Teaching DifficultiesTrain students listening,speaking,reading and writing skills. Learn to write a letter.Studying WaysTeach students how to talk about rules in daily life.Learning Strategies: Scanning. Deducing.Teaching proceduresStep 1 Revision Review some key words and language points learned in Unit 3 briefly.Step 2 PresentationPoint to the pictures one by one and teach students to say,Dont arrive late for class.Dont run in the hallways.Dont eat in the classrooms.Dont listen to music in the classrooms.Dont fight.Write the rules on the blackboard.Read and have students repeat several times.1a. Students open their books. Point out the list of school rules.Invite a different student to read each rule to the class.Each of these students is breaking one of these rules.Write the number of the rule each student is breaking in the box next to him or her.Point out the sample answer.Students do the activity individually.Step 3 LIstening1b. Ask students to read the five rules in activity 1a once more.Point to the three names.Say, You are to listen to a conversation.Three students are breaking the rules.Listen and write the number of the rules next to the name of the student who is breaking the rules.Play the recording for the first time.Students only listen.Play the recording again.This students listen and fill in the number of the rule after each name.Correct the answers.Step 4 Practice1c. Invite a pair of students to read the sample conversation to the class. Write it on the blackboard.Put students into pairs.Say,Student A is an exchange student.He or she doesnt know the rules in the school.Student B tells him or her about the rules in 1a.Get students to work in pairs.As they are working,move around the room offering help as needed.Get some pairs of students to present their conversation to the class.Step 5. Listening 1. Work on 2a. First, lets read the sentences in 2a together. T: Now, lets listen to the recording. Check the activities Alan and Cindy talk about. Ss listen to the recording and check the activities they hear. Play the recording again for the Ss to check the answers. 2. Work on 2b: Make Sure Ss know what they should do. Listen to the recording again. Can Alan and Cindy do these activities? Circle can or cant above. 3. Check the answers: Step 6. Pair work 2c. Suppose you are Alan and your partner is Cindy. Talk about the rules in 2a. Let some students come to the front and act out the conversations. Step 7 Role-play Learn 2d. 1. Read the conversation and find some rules in this school? 2. Ss read the conversations and find the answers to this question. 3. Check the answers. 4. Role-play the conversation.Homework: 1.
