人教版2020届英语初中学业水平模拟考试试卷C卷姓名:_ 班级:_ 成绩:_一、 阅读理解 (共5题;共48分)1. (10分)阅读理解(D)Have you ever had trouble sleeping in a new place?Lots of people do. And now researchers from Brown University in Rhode Island think they know why. They found that one-half of the brain remains more awake than the other half when people are trying to sleep in a new place. The sleep findings were reported in Current Biology by Brown University. In their report, the researchers said many people report they have a harder time sleeping the first night at a hotel or other places outside their home. They call it first-night influence. In Japan they say, If you change your bed, you cant sleep. Said Yuka Sasaki, one of the reports writers. You dont sleep very well in a new place. We all know about it.The researchers measured brain waves(测量脑波) for 35 volunteers over two nights in a laboratory. The two nights were a week apart. They found during the first night the left half of the brain was more active than the right half. This was during the first deep-sleep period, the researchers said.Sasaki said a lot of questions remain.Researchers did not keep measuring brain waves all night long. So, they dont know if the left half keeps watch all night, or whether it works in shifts(轮换) with the right half later in the night. They also do not know why the brain activity, at least during the first period of deep sleep, is always on the left half. For some, this research may be calming. It is good to know that our brain is looking out for us in a new place. But it may not help with sleep. (10分)阅读理解Its early in the morning and the alarm clock has already rung several times. You have to drag yourself out of bed and rush to school. As a school student, this is probably a common experience for you. But thanks to new rules, many students in Zhejiang and Heilongjiang provinces can now stay in bed longer than before. On Feb 23th, the Zhejiang Department of Education published a new guideline that asks primary schools to start school later. According to the guideline, start times could vary among different grades and seasons, with students in Grade 1 and 2 starting no earlier than 8:30a.m. A similar guideline was announced by the education department in Heilongjiang province on Feb 24th. Since the new term began in March, students from all primary and junior high schools have been required to arrive at school no earlier than 8 a.m. And senior high school students are now required to arrive at school no earlier than 7:30a.m. These changes are aimed at making sure students get adequate sleep and enough time for breakfast.According to a 2016 study, only 54.1 percent of students in Grade 4 slept 9 hours or more a night, while the required sleep time for primary students is 10 hours. These changes have received much praise. “I definitely welcome the move, since this will ensure my son has enough time for breakfast, which is important for his health and growth,” a mother from Hangzhou told China Daily. Pushing back school times isnt unique to China. In the United States, schools in at least 21 states began to start school later in 2017. According to a 2015 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US, later school start times could help improve students health and study performance. This article will describe a typical (典型的) high school and its students.A typical American high school has several large buildings and enough space for about l, 500 students. Every student is given a locker. When students first arrive at school, they go straight to their lockers to put away or get their textbooks and to hang up their outdoor clothes. As American textbooks are expensive, students would rather loan (租借) than buy them. Students must pay back if they lose any of them.American students have different types of school transport. They usually take a yellow school bus or walk to school if they live close enough. Sometimes their parents drive them to school. When they turn 16 years old, most take a free driving class at school for one term. If students earn passing grades in the class and also pass their state drivers exam, they can begin driving themselves to school. Each day, students take six or seven classes. They must take Science, Maths, English and Social Studies. They can choose Art, Homemaking, Fashion Design and other classes. In some schools students are required to take one or more of the following special classes: Health Education, Physical Education or Foreign Language Studies. Students move to different classrooms for each subject. This is because each teacher has their own classroom. There is a five-minute break between classes, to give the students the time to hurry to their next class. The regular school day usually ends early in the afternoon. After school more than half of the students are involved in after-school activities. These activities include sports-especially football, basketball, baseball and soccer or clubs, such as yearbook, speech, school newspaper, photograph or student government._ in an American high schoolOutlinesDetailsIntroductionIt gives an overview of a typical American high school and its_.Lockers and textbooksEvery student has a locker for textbooks and _ clothes. They prefer loaning textbooks to _ them._ transportStudents usually go to school by bus or on foot.
