Oral Presentation of the Teaching Plan forPeriod 1, Unit 4 Earthquake, SEFC Book 1Good morning, ladies and gentleman. Today, I feel honored to have the chance to share my teaching ideas with you. The content of the lesson is new senior English for China Students Book 1 Unit 4 Earthquake. My representation includes six parts: teaching material; students situation; teaching methods and learning methods; teaching procedures; blackboard design . Now I will introduce this period in detail.Part 1: Analysis of Teaching Material I will analysis the teaching material from three aspects: its status and function, teaching aims , the key points and difficult points. . Status and Function This unit is the fourth unit of this book and this lesson is the first period of this unit. It is a reading passage which is about an earthquake and plays an important role in this unit because it provides a vector for students language and grammar learning. . Teaching aimsMy teaching aims consist of four parts: Knowledge aims; ability aims and emotional aims . Knowledge aims To make students master some key words、expressions and some important verbs and verb phrases which describe earthquakes: shake; crack; fell down; lie in ruins; cut across. Ability aimsTo develop the students Listening, speaking reading and writing ability, especially their predicting, skimming and scanning ability.To train the Ss abilities of studying by themselves and cooperating . Emotional aims; To improve their environmental protection consciousness.To makes students know the importance of unity. Key points and difficult points; The important points is to help the student know some knowledge about the earthquake and to improve their reading ability.And the difficult point is using the learned phrases and sentence patterns to express ones ideas.Part 2 Analysis of the studentsThe students are in Grade 1, They have known something about the Earthquakes. Some long sentences are difficult for them to understand. So I will help the students in different levels to learn English.Part 3 Teaching method. Teaching MethodsIn this period, I will adopt communicative method, task-based method, situational method and inductive teaching method. Teaching AidsMulti-media computer; PPT and projector. CAI can provide a real situation with its sound and picture, it can develop the Ss creativity in learning English. Part 4 Learning methods Students would get the knowledge in the following ways: discovering learning , cooperative learning and so on. Part 5 Teaching proceduresTeaching aims are realized in teaching procedures. Designing an effective teaching procedures is of great importance. I divided the teaching process into 6 steps. Step 1: Leading-in (about 7 minutes)Purposes: to have students know about some vocabulary, practice speaking skills, to catch Ss attention about the class and to develop interest in the topicTask one-Discussion: Have you ever experienced any natural disasters? What natural disasters do you know? (2)Task two-Guess: Which natural disaster does the picture describe? (present some pictures) (1) Task three-: Play a movie Tangshan earthquake video (2) Can you imagine what would the city be like after the earthquake? (2)Step 2: Fast reading: scanning and skimming (about 10 minutes)Purposes: to trained students the reading skills and the ability of summing up.Task one- I will first tell the students this passage can be divided into 3 parts and let them find out the topic sentence of each part. (6)Task two-Fill the blanks to learning the structure of this material and sum up the main idea of each part. (4) ( Individual work, pair work, group work, class work;) Step 3: Careful reading ( about 20 minutes)Purposes: By finding out some detailed information of the text and training the ability of extracting the information. I can help the students understand the text better. And proper competition can arouse the Ss interest in English learning. “Task-based” teaching method is used here to develop the Ss ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained.Task one-What happened before the earthquake? (para1.) Please fill in the blanks according to the text. (6) Task two-What happened during the earthquake? (para2.-3.) Please complete the chart, and do the T or F. (8)Task three-What happened after the earthquake? (para4.) Please finish the following matching. (6) ( Individual work, pair work, group work, class work;)Step 4: Enlightenment (about 2 minutes)Purpose: to improve Ss ability of self-protection during an earthquake and meanwhile train their speaking skill.Task one-Discussion: ( Individual work, pair work, group work, class work;)How can we protect ourselves in an earthquake? (Hide under the hard furniture; put out the fire and turn off the gas; use something hard to protect your head; never try to use the lift.)Step 5: Homework: (about 1minute)Purposes: To consolidate what students have learned in this period and to prepare for the next period.1. Learn the new words and expressions in this part by heart.2.
