The Best Way to Learn EnglishWhat is the best way to learn English? It is a frequently asked question by students, parents and anyone who are interested in learning English. The answers to this question could be a lot offered by the English teachers or language experts. According to my teaching experiences, the best way is a personal choice. The best way for one person might not be the proper way for another. For example, one of my university classmates recited the whole English-Chinese dictionary and with a huge vocabulary he gained the language efficiency. But the fact is that he was the only one in my class who learned the language this way. Therefore, there is no such a pill which can cure all kinds of illness, and one has to find his own best way to learn the language. In this sense, what we are talking about is the method used in learning English. Beyond this, there are some factors, I think, more important or should be taken priority of.The most important factor which will lead to your final success no matter what kind of way you are going to use is the attitude to the English language learning. A positive attitude is more important than any learning methods. You have to love “English”, not only for the purpose of passing course exams or of going abroad but for a better understanding and appreciation of other peoples, other cultures and the world so as to have a living of better quality. When you love it, you will have great passion of doing it just like the students obsessed with playing the internet games. With this attitude, every new word or every sentence you learn will not only be a word with letters or a sentence with grammatical structure but pictures which present to you the life of people using them as well as the culture behind them, and then the learning becomes enjoyable. For instance, when you heard a mother try to convince her daughter of not making complaint of her boss by telling her “Can a small fish eat a big fish?” what would you find out beyond the sentence? Why didnt the mother say something like “the egg against the rock”, or “the arm against the leg”? The real reason for the mother to use the sentence with fish is that the family live close to the sea. It is the common sense that the big fish eats the small fish. Therefore, it is dangerous and useless to fight against her boss. Imagine how fascinating it is to learn English! Your love of “English” will give you great motivation and your memory will become active. With some positive trying, you will find your best way of learning English. When you spend enough time in learning the language, you will find learning English is not that difficult and is not painful at all.The way to learn English is something of your choice according to your own
