ExperiencePerceptionParticipation- Teaching design for An Apple Tree. Teaching content:An Apple Tree Hi, Im Amy, an apple tree. I like spring because its warm. I get pink and white flowers. I get new leaves. Ahhh! Spring. I like summer because its hot. My apples grow bigger and bigger. My leaves become greener and greener. Hummm! Summer. I like autumn because it is cool. My apples become red. My leaves become colorful. Wow! Autumn. I have no leaves or apples. But, I like winter because I like snow. Shhh! Winter. The textbook: It is a reading material for students in Grade 5 in accordance with PEP Primary English Students Book 6. It is a teaching material used after that students have learned words and sentences about four seasons. It is to help students describe the apple trees in four seasons and to improve their ability of language use. Design concept: Designing this lesson, I adhere to the curriculum standards as basis, to the textbook as carrier, to the development of students as aim. It is to encourage students to participate actively in learning English, to build knowledge construction through experience, perception and participation and to cultivate their learning interest. Students condition: After learning Unit 2, Students of Grade 5 have mastered words and sentences about seasons. But they have difficulty in describing changes in four seasons. So enough time and chances for participation are necessary. . Teaching objectives:By the end of the period, students should be able to:1. know features of apple trees in four seasons; 2. use sentence patterns: I like.because., My.become/grow. to describe apple trees in four seasons;3. know meanings of “get, become, grow” in sentences;4.construct the passage through experience, perception and participation; 5. read the passage correctly, fluently and full of emotion; 6. express their feelings and communicate with others in English actively. Teaching key points: the process of constructing the passage after learning words and sentences about four seasons. Teaching difficult points: 1. the meanings of the following sentences in summer and autumn: My apples grow bigger and bigger. My leaves become greener and greener. My apples become red. My leaves become colorful. 2. the process of constructing the passage. Teaching aids: pictures of flowers, leaves and apples, multi-media devices. Teaching procedures (T: teacher Ss:students) Warm up:T does self-introduction, does greetings and free talks with Ss.(Purpose: to create a relaxing learning surrounding and review the words and sentences that will be used in this period.)Lead-in:1. Ss watch a video about a tree in four seasons and answer questions.2. T and Ss stick the pictures of apple trees on bodies and do greetings. T leads to the title of the passage “An apple tree”. (Purpose: to help students understand that well learn a story about “me, an apple tree”.) Presentation:Presentation of “the apple tree in spring”.1. Ss watch a video about an apple tree (me) in spring and say simple sentences about the video.2. T concludes simple sentences into compound sentences and teaches them.3. T sticks the tree in spring on the board and Ss say compound sentences they have just learned.4. Ss finish Task 1: Please find out sentences to finish my story in spring.5. T and Ss check answers together and Ss read the 1st part. (Purpose: to help Ss construct the paragraph of the apple tree in spring through experience, perception and participation.) Presentation of “the apple tree in summer”and “the apple tree in autumn”.1. T shows pictures of the apple tree in summer and autumn. Ss make comparison by saying simple sentences. 2. Ss finish Task 2: Please choose sentences to finish my story in summer and autumn. T and Ss check answers together. 3. Ss learn sentences describing the apple tree in summer and autumn.4. Ss describe the growth of the apple tree in summer and autumn by referring to the pictures and the key words.5. Ss read the 2nd and the 3rd parts. (Purpose: to help Ss construct the paragraphs of the apple tree in summer and autumn through experience, perception and participation.) Presentation of “the apple tree in winter”. 1. T shows the picture of the apple tree in winter and Ss say sentences about the picture. T helps Ss to understand “ I have no leaves or apples”. 2. T and Ss finish the tree in winter on the blackboard together. 3. Ss stick “winter” part , read it and complete the passage. (Purpose: to help Ss construct the whole passage by themselves step by step and feel the joy of fulfillment.) Consolidation and extension:1. Ss watch the video. 2. T analyzes the construction of the passage.3. Ss read the passage by themselves in groups and do presentation.4. Retell the story of “An apple tree”. (optional) (Purpose: to help Ss read the whole passage correctly, fluently and full of emotion.; to help them say what they have learned in this period and speak English actively.)Conclusion: Ss make a conclusion of the lesson with the help of the teacher.Homework: Please make your own story-book about trees in four seasons by referring to the story of me, the apple tree.
