Instructional objectivesBy the end of the class, students should be able to :1) recognize new words and phrases in listening;2) ask for directions on the street with “Is there.” sentence pattern;3) give directions and describe the location with related prepositions in daily conversation.2. Educational objectivesBy the end of the class, students should be able to :1) master the listening skill which is to write the first or first two letters of each word for saving time for better listening2) be more confidential to speak English with expressions learned in class;3) be aware of helping others and cooperating.3. Personal objectivesBy the end of the class, the teacher should be able to :know how to arrange time for each activity according to the response of students during class.III. Students analysis:Students are in Grade 7 and their language level is intermediate.Before, they know the statement form of “there be” sentence pattern. Now in this class, they ought to master the question form of it to ask for directions and some new words about places. Besides, they should know how to give directions with prepositions; Later, in next grammar class they will go deeper into prepositions and other expressions about guiding the way.In addition, most students in Grade7 tend to fail to concentrate all the time in class and their ability of abstract thinking is weak while imaginal thinking is good, which makes the teacher manage to arouse their interest technically. As a result, a daily situation is set as background throughout this class.IV. Material analysis:1)Section A in the textbook is the beginning of this unit. It provides new words and key sentence patterns and some phrases which help students practice speaking skills and also make preparation for next class grammar learning.2)Section A consists of two parts. In part 1, there are new words learning and listening and practice of key sentences. Activity 1a and 1b intend to combine meanings and forms of new words. But actually students can work out without knowing the meanings. They are invalid activities. So I will cancel them and design another one.3)In part 2, activities are designed to learn direction prepositions. But students can write the correct answers through listening without learning the expressions. So I will use 2a as presentation and put 2b into other use. V. Focal point: ask for directions and its simple reply Difficult point: direction prepositionsVI.Teaching procedures: (40 min)Stage 1. Getting ready Step 1. Greeting (0.5)Stage 2. Pre-listening Step 2. (1)Title: the topic Activity: freely talk with students and lead in the topic,setting a scene throughout the whole classInstructions: Boys and girls,nice to meet you! (Ss: nice to meet you!)Well, I am happy to be here. However, Im also a little unhappy. Actually, I need to go to some places. But Im new here and I dont know the way. So, can you help me?(Ss: Yes!)OK.Thank you. Lets go!*Function: to lead in the topic and set a scene Step 3. (4)Title: new wordsActivity: present pictures and help students understand new words in contextInstructions: First of all, where do I want to go? I want to go to the .OK, read after me. Post office, post office. If we have a post office near here, we can say there is a post office near here.*Function: to lead in the new words and let students notice key sentences Step 4. (3)Title: words matchingActivity: match the words with their picturesInstructions: Do you remember them? Match the words with pictures. You have 2 minutes.OK? Here we go!*Function: check and strengthen students memory Step 5. (5)Title: key sentence patterns and pair work Activity: explain the sentence to ask for directions and make students do drills to practiceInstructions: Just now, we know the places I want to go. Right? But how to ask for directions? Here, if we want to ask, we can use “Is there.” Just put “is” or “are” in the beginning. And to answer it, its “yes, there is.” or “ no, there isnt.” Now, you are going to use the words which we just learned to make a dialogue like this. These pictures may help you. Do it In pairs. And 3 minutes later , Ill check. Understand? OK, go!(after discussing) Now, time is up. Who would like to have a try?( if there is none) How about you two, please? (after their talking like the example below) Good, thank you guys.*Function: to practice key sentences following learning needed new wordsStep 6. ( 5)Title: prepositionsActivity: teach the prepositions with picturesInstructions: Until now, weve learned how to ask for directions. But how to answer it? For example, where is the pay phone? Its on Green Street.*Function: present the key prepositionsStep 7. ( 5)Title: pair workActivity: work in pairs to practice prepositions and sentences learned at the same timeInstructions: Now, time for pair work! You are going to make sentences like this. 3 minutes later, show your dialogue. OK? Here we go!*Function: practice the key prepositionsStage 3. While-listeningStep 8. ( 3)Title: listeningActivity: listen and fill the blanksInstructions: Listen the material carefully and fill the blanks according to what you hear. Ready?(Ss: Yes.)(after listening) Now, lets check together. What are the answers? The fist one, can you read the sentence?(Ss: the police station is between the restaurant and the hospital) Good, “between and”. Next one?.*Function: to practice listening skills and prepare for next activity Stage 4. Post-listeningStep 9(6)Title: map drawingActivity: guide students to complete a map according to the listening and explain these expressions meanings againInstructions: Now, guys, you can help me. I need this map. Lets listen again and together complete this map. What is between the restaurant and the hospital? (Ss: the police station) Right. So if it is like this, we use “between and”.*Function: consolidate new prepositions again with listening as a output Step 10(3)Title: conclusionActivity: develop emotional education, review and assign homeworkInstructions: Because of you, I can go to anywhere I want with
