Lesson PlanTeacher : 杨玲(南江县实验中学)Class / level:Unit 1, Grade 8 , Go for it Where did you go on vacation? Section B 2a-2e(1) ReadingDate:2017/4/20Profile of class (Ages, motivations.)Students are from Grade 8.Students have certain vocabulary.Most students are interested in this topic- traveling.But some of the students are shy, so they are encouraged to express their opinions in groups, then in front of the whole class. Time:40minutesNum. of students:36Aims of lesson:Knowledge objective: Students will master new words and past forms of some key verbs.Ability objective: Students will improve their reading skills and abilities of listening and sharing their ideas. Morality objective: Students will develop their interest in cooperation and learn to be civilized travelers.Learning Outcomes (by the end of the session learners will be able to):Students can remember some past forms of the key verbs.Students can simply talk about past events.Students can improve their reading skills.Students can understand the importance of low-carbon life and civilized traveling and think about their behaviours when they go out.Materials and Resources:Teacher: textbook, guidance paper, computer, blackboard, and chalk.Students: textbook, guidance paper, pen. Language Focus Pronunciation , meaning + use. Function, Structure, VocabularyTalk about past events:past forms of regular verbs:eg. arrive arrived ; decide decided ; trytried ; wantwanted ; waitwaitedpast forms of irregular verbs:eg. have had ; ride rode; see saw; go wentPronunciation of difficult words:eg. Malaysia /mle/ paragliding /prglad/Skills Focus (Which specific receptive and productive skills & sub-skills will the learners practise?):Students will practice the ability of pronouncing the new words.Students will practice the ability of listening to others and sharing some ideas with classmates.Students will practice the ability of skimming and find out the specific information in a passage.Students will learn one way to read a story and write a story.Students will practice the ability of talking about the past events.Students will learn the ways of getting information in daily life.Students will learn how to prepare for a trip and understand the importance of civilized travel.Anticipated problems:(and what I plan to do if they arise)Some students may be shy, so I will use the things happened around us to start with.(I will use Guangwu Mountain to talk about, the students may be excited.)Some students may not be able to make some phrases according to the new words, so I will ask them to discuss in a group.Some students may not be able to find some specific information quickly, so I will give them some examples to help them.If the students cant express their opinions, I will show them some words and the pronunciations on the Guidance paper. If the students can write down a paragraph about their ideas, then they are encouraged to do that. If they cant, they are allowed to write down some sentences or phrases.Some students may not be able to write a short travel diary, so I will design two kinds of homework. All the students need to finish the first exercise, and some students can write a diary.Assessment:All the students need to finish exercise . Students can choose to do exercise . Write a diary about your vacation according to the first diary in the textbook.Stage:Procedure: Teaching Methods/ Teacher activity Student Activity and interactionTiming:I design this class from 4 stages-Primary Perception, Discovery, Show and Improvement.They are suitable for students to learn new knowledge. And Ill use the Internet to connect the whole class.1.Primary PerceptionStep1.Lead- inGuangwu Mountain is the pride of Bazhong. Ill use traveling to Guangwu Mountain to start the class.Purpose of my designing: Students can be excited to talk about their experiences there. Suddenly, an AD about Traveling to Malaysia comes out with the sound. Purpose of my designing: This will lead to another traveling placeMalaysia. And students can be interested and attracted by the sound and the Internet.Step2.New words and phrasesThen, we will read this AD. Students will talk about new words and make some phrases according to the pictures.Purpose of my designing: Students can have a primary perception of the new knowledge.2. DiscoveryStep3.Fast reading If we want to go to Malaysia, we should know more information. First, students will find out the fastest way to find more information. Most students like to use the internet. Then, we will use Baidu to find out the traveling tips- two diaries, which can also be found in the textbook.Purpose of my designing: Students can learn the ways to get information and how to prepare for a trip. Next, I will use two questions to train their reading skillskimming. They need to find out the specific words that show writers feelings.Step4.Careful reading (pair work) First, students will read carefully and find out some background information according to the words: when, where, how. Then, they will discuss in groups of 4 and finish the mind map. Teacher and students will ask and answer to complete the mind-map of Janes first diary. Purpose of my designing: Students can learn the way to read a story and write a story.3. ShowStep5.Careful reading(pair work)First, students will discuss in pairs to make a mind-map of Janes second diary according to the four words: when, where, how, what. Then, students will make conversations according to the mindmap they have made.Purpose of my designing: Students can improve the ability of looking for information and practice speaking and past forms of the key verbs. Step6.Discussion of morality Students have a general understanding of the diaries. But they still need to read some sentences more carefully. For example, Janes family wanted to walk up to the top, but if we compare them with the people in the news, we can find that Janes family had a low-carbon life style. Students need to find out other low-carbon activities in the diaries. Then Ill ask them why we should have low-carbon life, and advise them to watch a report by Chai Jing after class. Then, Ill give them another two pictures, they will find out the opposite activities Janes family did.Purpose of my designing: From the pictures, students begin to think about these behaviors. Most of us behave well in our daily life, but a few people dont behave well, so they made bad influence on Chinese people. Ill ask students the talk about their feelings after seeing the pictures.Then, we will have a discussion on what we should do and what we shouldnt do when we go out. And they will write down a paragraph or some sentences on the Guidance paper. Finally, some groups will be invited to share their ideas.Purpose of my designing: Students will learn from others and understand the importance of protecting the environment and civilized traveling.4. ImprovementStep7. Homework.I will design two kinds of homework. All the students need to finish exercise one. Some students can do exercise.
