However, they need to use them to compare things in a relatively complex context in this class. Only in this way can they deepen their English knowledge and further their language competence.l 重点难点1. New words and expressions such as population, feel free to do sth, ancient, protect, wide, wide, as far as I know, etc.2. Understand comparatives and superlatives while listening and speaking.l 教学过程Step 1 Warming up1. Write the four large numbers in 1a on the board and let students read after you.2. What do you know about this number, 8844.43? The proper name Qomolangma can be presented to students in this way. Likewies, another three places, namely the Nile, the Caspian Sea, the Sahara, can be introduced.3. Explain briefly these four special places. For example,Qomolangma is a moutain. In fact, its the highest moutain in the world. Its higer than any other moutain in the world.Step 2 Presentation1. Match the facts according to what you have already known about these places in 1a.Check the answers and then read together.2. Before listening 1b, try to predict the answers and write down your predictions.Play the tape. Pay attention to the key words while listening. You can ignore the difficult structures or sentences.Check the answers. Read the sentences together.3. Use the information in 1b to make conversations like the sample in 1c. 4. Play the recording again and lead students to focus on the comparative and superlatives. What do you know about these four places? You can use the information in 1a and 1b to help you. For instance, Qomolangma is the highest moutian in the world. It is 8844.43 meters high.Who can talk about the other places? Hands up.5. Write the four numbers, 6300, 5000, 5464, 300 on the board and have students read them one by one.2. In groups of four, compare the numbers. The more structure you can use, the better.6300 is the biggest/largest number of all.6300 is bigger than any other number in them.6300 is much bigger than 300.5400 is almost as big as 5464.3. Before listening 2a, look through the four sentences and find out the key words.Number the facts while listening. Check the answers.4. Fill in the blanks with the numbers. Listen again and check the answers. Finally, read the complete sentences together.5. Play the tape again and lead students to note down the comparatives and superlative as much as they can.6. Read the sample conversation in 2c and pay attention to the two kinds of tenses in one sentence. Explain the reasons to students.In pairs, use the information in 2a to make conversations.
