The study, which included nearly 1,400 high school students, found that those who watched TV for five hours or more per day had lesshealthy diets than their peers five years later. As a group, they ate fewer fruits and vegetables, whole grains and calciumrich foods, but downed more fast food, sugary drinks, snack products and fried foods. “Were not able to tell why,” lead researcher Dr. Daheia J. BarrAnderson, of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, told Reuters Health. “But we do have some speculations (推测). For one,” she said, “people who spend a lot of time in front of the TV, especially teenagers, may snack more, and that may affect their longterm diet quality.”Its also possible that TV ads for fast food, sweets and snacks tempt teenagers to eat more of those foods, according to BarrAnderson. TV time might also replace exercise time for some kids; however, BarrAnderson noted, many teens who exercise also watch a lot of television. The researchers found a clear correlation (关联) between TV time during high school and diet quality in young adulthood. While the heaviest TV viewers were eating the most junk food five years later, those whod watched fewer than two hours per day had the highest intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and highcalcium foods.According to BarrAnderson, the findings support experts recommendations that children should watch no more than two hours of television per day. “Parents should limit and monitor TV viewing,” BarrAnderson said. She added, though, that parents own habits matter, too. She recommended that parents set a good example by eating right, being physically active and controlling their own TV time.语篇导读:根据一项研究,青少年如果长期沉迷于电视,长大后往往会形成不健康的饮食习惯。1. If they have to make a decision of this type, most people (especially dieters or very busy people) will choose to skip breakfast. However, many experts in the field of health consider breakfast (the meal which “breaks” your “fast” which started the night before) to be most important meal of the day. If we eat a good breakfast, they say, we will have the energy and nutrients we need to begin our working day with vigor and hopefully with good humor. Nevertheless, many people skip breakfast or substitute (代替) a donut and a cup of coffee for a wellbalanced meal. What happens if we ignore the importance of breakfast? One recent study carried out in the United Sates tested a large number of people. Participants (people who take part in something) included both males and females who ranged in age from 12 to 83. During the experiment, these people were given a variety of breakfast, and sometimes, they had to skip breakfast completely. Special tests, including blood tests and endurance (忍耐力) tests, were set up to analyze how well the participants bodies functioned when they had eaten a certain kind of breakfast. The results showed that if he or she eats a proper breakfast, he or she will work more efficiently and more productively than if he or she skips breakfast or eats a very poor breakfast. This fact appears to be especially true if a persons work involves mental activity. The study showed that if school children eat fruit, eggs, bread, and milk before going to school, they will learn more quickly and will be able to concentrate on their lessons for a longer period of time than if their breakfast diet is improper. The study also showed that, contrary to what many people believe, if you skip breakfast, you will not lose weight. This is because people become so hungry if they skip breakfast that they eat too much for lunch and end up gaining weight instead of losing. So remember, if you are on a diet, skipping breakfast will not help you. You will probably lose more weight if you reduce your other meals. 语篇导读:很多人因为工作繁忙或者减肥而不吃早餐,殊不知早餐是一天中最重要的一餐,它为我们一天的工作提供营养和能量。另外,用不吃早餐的方法来减肥,也是不明智的。1. My every waking hour was consumed (消耗) by the project and although I imagined that I would feel happy after completing parts of the project, I was confused to find that instead, I was feeling rather depressed. I tried a range of methods to help cheer myself up. I had a relaxing bath, cooked a delicious meal to enjoy with my family and even watched a lighthearted (轻松的) movie, but to_no_avail. It was only when I turned to meditation (沉思) for a solution that the answer came to me: turn to nature! The very next day, I grabbed my camera and a bottle of water and set off to spend a few hours walking in a nature reserve, even though it was pouring with rain. Within a couple of minutes I felt alive again. To be honest, I felt like a young school girl again and had to stop myself from hopping (单脚跳) along the path singing, “Im singing in the rain”, a song I used to sing when I was a child. I think as adults we often try too hard to control our inner children and as a result we restrain (限制) our own spirits, which only leads to depression and stress.Interestingly, it has been shown that people who spend 40 minutes walking in a nature reserve have a drop in their blood pressure levels, but this does not happen when they spend a similar amount of time walking in a busy city centre. If you feel a little low in spirit and know that you have spent too much time indoors, relax completely, remove your shoes and let your inner child come out and play.语篇导读:工作疲惫时,你是否可以让自己像孩子一般在大自然中肆意地放松。作者以自己的亲身经历,建议人们在工作之余,放开束缚,将自己尽情释放在大自然中。4. Why? Because that is the amount of water they have been told all their life. _1_ Experts suggest people should obey their bodies: they should drink as much water as they feel like drinking instead of exactly eight glasses or two liters. The report says most healthy people meet their daily needs for liquid by letting thirst be their guide. The report is from the Institute of Medicine, which provides scientific and technical advice to the government and the public._2_ It says women should get about 2.7 liters of water every day and men should get about 3.7 liters. But waitin each case, that is more than eight glasses. There is one important difference. The report does not tell people how many glasses of water are needed to meet these guidelines. This is because the daily water requirement can include the water content in foods._3_ People also drink fruit juices and sodas and milk. They drink coffee and tea. These all contain water. Yet some also contain caffeine (咖啡因). This causes the body to lose more water. But the writers of the report say this does not mean the body loses too much water. As you might expect, the Institute of Medicine says people need to dri
