Teaching procedureStep 1 Lead in Guessing gameT: Good afternoon class.Ss: Good afternoon Miss. Pan.T: Today we are going to talk about unit 3 A healthy life. But first of all, lets play a guessing game. Are you ready?Ss: Yes.T: Ok. Go!Guessing game:Who is he? (Zhang Guorong张国荣)l A well-known singer in HKl Sang the song “Monica”l committed suicide(自杀)on April 1st, 2003.Who is she? (Shen Dianxia沈殿霞)l a famous film star in HKl of very big sizel died of cancer on Feb. 19th, 2008T: (Showing the photo of Shen Dianxia) Was Shen Dianxia a healthy person? Ss: No.T: What health problems did she have?Ss: She had cancer.T: Yes. Cancer is a kind of physical disease. (Showing the photo of Zhang Guorong) How about Zhang Guorong? Was he a healthy person? Ss: No. (Some students may say that he was gay.)T: He was under great depression. And depression is a kind of mental disease. Now, what kind of person do you think can be called a truly healthy person?Ss: A truly healthy person is some who is healthy in both body and mind.Step 2: Brainstorm Health issuesT: Everyone wants to live a healthy life, but people always have some health problems. Can you name some health problems? (Showing pictures of some health issues)Ss: obesity, malnutrition, cigarette smoking, drinking alcohol, drug abuse, stressT: These healthy problems are the most important healthy issues we concern. What health issues did we talk about just now? (Help students memorize the new words.)Step 3: Self-checkT: Do you think you are a healthy person?Ss: Yes. / No.T: Are you sure? Lets have a check. There are eight statements. Take a tick for “Yes” and take a cross for “No”.Self-check: “” for Yes and “” for No1. You feel sleepy and tired all the time. 2. Sometimes you get headache or stomachache. 3. You sleep badly. 4. Sometimes you eat more or less than usual. 5. You have so much homework to do that you have no time to take physical exercise. 6. You often stay up(熬夜) late to study. 7. You are afraid of exams. 8. You seldom talk with your friends. T: Have you finished it? How many ticks do you have?S1: I have threeS2: I have six.T: If you have four or more than four, that means you are stressed out, because Number one to Number four are the symptoms of stress and Number five to Number eight are the caused of stress.Step 4: Bad effects of stress T: Is stress good or bad for our health? Ss: Good. / Bad.T: In fact, stress will bring some bad effects to our health. Stress does harm to / is harmful to us both physically and mentally. If we are under stress / are stressed out for a long period of time, and we cant relieve(缓解)it, we may go crazy or suffer from heart attacks one day.(In this part, students should take notes to fill in the blacks and it can help students review some expressions and these expressions can be used to make a dialogue later.)T: Stress is horrible. If you are under stress, what will you do?S1: I will tell my friend. S2: I will ask my father to help me.T: Hum, you can try doing that. But the best way is to go to see the doctor.Step 5 TranslationT: If you are the doctor, what will you ask your patient?S1: What is your name?S2: How old are you?T: (Display the questions in Chinese)Maybe the doctor will ask these questions, but how to speak in English? Answer: symptomsT: When you ask Question one, what your patient will tell you? Your patient will tell you the symptoms of his/ her disease. Q2:你晚上几点睡?睡得好吗?When will you go to sleep? When will you go to bed? Do you sleep well?Q3:你多久去运动一次?How often do you go for (physical) exercise?Q4:你的饮食均衡吗? Do you have a balanced diet?T: If you are the patient, what will you ask your doctor? (Display the questions in Chinese)Maybe the patient will ask these questions, but how to speak in English? Now you have one minute to do the translation. Q1:压力会损害身体健康吗? Will stress do harm to/ damage our health? / Is stress harmful to our health? Q2:压力对身体造成什么危害? What bad effect / damage will stress bring? Q3:怎样做才能缓解压力? How to relieve stress? / What should I do to relieve stress?T: When you ask Question three, what will the doctor give you?Ss: Some advice.Step 6: DiscussionT: Yes. The Doctor will give you some advice but how to give advice? Open your book and turn to Page 23. There are some expressions to give advice. Now discuss with your partner, and try to list some advice on relieving stress using these expressions. Step 7: Role play(2011年高考听说考试题型)Task One: T: Lets have a try to make a conversation between a doctor and a patient who is stressed out. All the girl act as doctors and boys act as patients. The expressions we talk about just now may be helpful. Now, boys go to see the doctors and take notes.
