A Atossa 3D Printed Footwear by Behrad GhodsiAtossa is a stunning 3D printed footwear by designer Behrad Ghodsi. “Atossa is the new generation of 3D printed footwear, designed only for you and your feet. Atossa is about style, comfort and quality. Atossa started as the idea for redesigning industrial and social systems that deliver the products to us. We thought of getting help of 3D print technology to develop customized products. Our goals were to minimize the waste of matter and energy and increase peoples involvement in the design process.” The shoe design isnt random. It takes inspiration from our own bodys bone micro-structure. Making it sturdy, no matter how frail it looks. The shoe is designed in a way that supports all the pressure points of the foot in a way that is good for you. Each shoe is bespoke. The Atossa app allows you to send the designers pictures of your foot and have them construct shoes best suited for your wear. You can also customize the way the strap goes around your ankle, virtually giving one design multiple avatars. And just when you thought the shoe design couldnt be more well-planned, the 3D printing uses a material called PLA to build the shoe. An organic plastic that can bio-degrade. Having said that, these heels definitely reach newer heights; and makes sure you do too! From: Best Places to Test Your Survival SkillsCant sit still while on holiday? Expedition Alaska, USAAny kind of trip to Alaska is an adventure. But every June, the organisers of Expedition Alaska put on what many consider to be the most challenging adventure race in the world. This seven-day event on the Kenai Peninsula (基奈半岛) covers roughly 500 km and includes monster stretches of trekking, ocean crossings, white-water kayaking (激流皮划艇), packrafting, mountain biking, canyoneering (峡谷漂流), coasteering (越野活动), and abseiling (滑绳). Expedition Alaska is the ultimate test of fitness, outdoor survival skills and wits, in one of the worlds most unforgiving wildernesses. Amazon River Annual International Ra Race, PeruThis three-day event deep in the Peruvian jungle is almost as fun to watch as it is to participate in. An astronaut provides the answers in the sci-fi hit The Martian. In the movie, the NASA astronaut and botanist Mark Watney struggles to survive on Mars after having been thought dead and left behind unintentionally by his fellow workers. Mark has to figure out how to survive for the next years by growing his own food, producing water and protecting himself against the hard conditions on Mars until he can be rescued. With food only for one month, Mark is forced to become a “Robinson Crusoe” and plant potatoes on Mars, which has no water, no oxygen and very low temperatures. When an explosion destroys all the potatoes he planted and NASA fails to fly in fresh supplies, China steps in to help by allowing a rocket called Taiyangshen (God of the Sun). The screenplay, adapted from American author Andy Weirs 2011 novel The Martian, is actually more like a scientists dairy filled with complex scientific experiments and mathematics.Producer Simon Kinberg says: “The tale is very real, something that Ive hardly seen in previous sci-fi movies. It has a nice balance between real science and something that is funny, entertaining and humourous.”Matt Damon, who plays Mark in the movie, says: “The most interesting thing about the movie is that the tale is not something beyond imagination, but something that could really happen in the future.” The movie shows how the world gains more knowledge through the heros fight for survival on a remote planet.Matt played the title role of Ryan in the 1998 war epic Saving Private Ryan Now 17 years after his character was rescued in that movie, it seems that goodness in the world has not disappeared.Helen of TroyHelen of Troy 在现代英语中,Helen of Troy除了表示a beautiful girl or woman; a beauty who ruins her country等意义外,还可以用来表示a terrible disaster brought by sb or sth you like best的意思。 She didnt think of the beautiful umbrella bought the day before should become a Helen of Troy in her family. The absence of it is not an assured ground of condemnation, but the presence of it is an invariable sign of goodness of heart. In proportion to the degree in which it is felt will probably be the degree in which nobleness and beauty of character will be attained.Natural beauty is an all-pervading presence. The universe is its temple. It unfolds into the numberless flowers of spring. It waves in the branches of trees and the green blades of grass. It haunts the depths of the earth and the sea. It gleams from the hues of the shell and the precious stone. And not only these minute objects but the oceans, the mountains, the clouds, the stars, the rising and the setting sunall overflow with beauty. This beauty is so precious, and so congenial to our tenderest and noblest feelings, that it is painful to think of the multitude of people living in the midst of it and yet remaining almost blind to it.All the people should seek to become acquainted with the beauty in nature. There is not a worm we tread upon, nor a leaf that dances merrily as it falls before the autumn winds, but calls for our study and admiration. The power to appreciated beauty not merely increases our sources of happinessit enlarges our moral nature, too. Beauty calms our restlessness and dispels our cares. Go into the fields or the woods, spend a summer day by the sea or the mountains, and all your little perplexities and anxieties will vanish. Listen to sweet music, and your foolish fears and petty jealousies will pass away. The beauty of the world helps us to seek and find the beauty of goodness. E 阅读训练(一)Passage ADirections: Complete the following passage by using the words in the box.
