Some of the classes students need to complete reports or research, and you usually need to set up meetings with professors to finish this project. The problem is at the end of the semester professors are very busy and it would very difficult to make an appointment with them.In the reading passage,the author suggests the university to exten preparation time for the final exams.However,in the conversation,the man strongly opposes this idea for the following reasons.First,according to the winter,the reason why he proposed this suggestion is that students could use this period of time to organize their knowledge.Whereas,the man thinks that instead of inal exam,students scores should be judged according to their performances during the whole semester.As a result,this policy would not be helpful ar all.Second,as the writer said,one benefit of this proposal is that it could allow students to adjust from the studying mode to the testing mode.Whereas,the man argued that as some students are assigned papers and reports as their final exam,this would not be this helpful for this kind of students.In fact,due to the busy schedule of professors during the end of a semester,it is really difficult to make an appointment with them.Task 4Water is a vital resource for all creatures that live on earth, no matter the size or type of creature, even in the plant world. Plants use their unique root systems to withdraw water from underground in order to survive. In areas that have an abundant water supply it is relatively easy for plants to spread and flourish, but in water limited areas such as the desert unique root systems are needed to ensure the survival of plants. Today, we are going to discuss the unique root system of desert plants in class. As we all know water is the most important resource to any type of living creature on the earth, may it be plants or animals. Cactuses are the most common plant inthe desert and they are able to survive in this unique environment as a result of their root system. This type of plant lives far away from other types of plants and there are two main reasons for this. The first is because of providing sufficient area for the root system to gain access to water. The desert environment severely lacks water, so plants cant survive close to each other. If plants grow close to each other than that would mean they would fight for a similar source of nutrition, in many cases both plants may die. The second method it utilizes is chemical protection. When other plants begin to grow in the vicinity of the cactus, the plant begins to produce a particular type of chemical that stunts the growth of rivaling plants. This forces the other plants to move away from the root system of the cactus.The reading passage introduces dessert unique root systems which are needed in the survival of plants.In the lecture,the professor mainly used the example of Cactuses to illustrate the two methods for the root systems to ensure their survival in dessert.As the professor said,since it is extremely lack of water in dessert,plants could survive when they live close to each other.Second,the root system would also utilize chemical protection to gain water.To be more specific,the root systems would emit a kind of chemical signal when its territory is being threatened or intruded by its rivals,which forces other plants to move away from it.Task 5A: Whats wrong you look worried?B: I have got a problem.A: What happened?B: There is a world famous guest speaker that is going to give a lecture at the university. The lecture is going to be about journalism in todays modern society and I really want to attend it.A: Just go then.B: The problem is that I might not be able to. You see I have a part-time job at the library and the time conflicts with the lecture. The boss is pretty nice and Im sure I can ask for a break, but I just asked for one last week and it really is a bad idea to ask for vacations too often. A: Oh ok, what else can you do then?B: I could always have a friend tape the lecture and borrow it from them afterwards,but I really want to ask the speaker some questions, if I watch the video I wont be able to meet this person and ask him questions.In the conversation,the man encounters a problem.There is a time conflicts as he not only want to attend a lecture but also is engaged in a part time job in the library.In order to solve this problem,the woman proposed two possible solutions.The first one is to attend the lecture anyway.The second solution is that he could ask a friend of his to tape the lecture and watch the tape afterwards.Personally speaking,I would rather adopt the second solution for the following reasons.First,as the man said,he has already asked for a break one week ago.It would be extremely unreasonable for him to do it again in such a short time.Second,even though he will not be able to ask questions to the speaker as he will when he goes to the lecture,he would not feel regretted as he fullfilled his responsibility. Task 61. Class, today we are going to discuss a common business strategy called second interest. In business, the target for any type of company is to attract new customers and maintain existing customers. The method of second interest is to appeal to the secondary interest of the consumer, while satisfying the primary need. There are two methods of second interest strategy that are utilized by businesses. The first method is to appeal to the consumers secondary interest. For example, when a consumer shops for a computer they usually have a second interest that drives this primary need. The business would appeal to this secondary need by providing free video games. When the consumer is not sure the type of computer to purchase, the video games could convince them to purchase the computer because this appeals to their secondary interest. The other method utilized is to provide additional services that fit a potential need of the consumer. One example of this would be to provide free computer lessons to the consumers that wish to purchase a computer. This is best used to maintain customers with added value, as well as receiving immediate feedback on the weakness of the product.In the l
