Ability objective Students will be able to (1) grasp the structure of the present progressive tense (2) grasp the sentence pattern transformation, such as: changing the affirmative sentences into questions and giving short answers grasp the structure of “What questions” in the present progressive tense and put it into practice3. Emotion objectiveBy talking about what people are doing, students will be able to learn how to care about others.Teaching main and difficult points1. Teaching main points (1) The structure of the present progressive tense: be+V-ing (2) Yes/No questions and short answers (3) What questions2. Teaching difficult pointsHow to grasp the structure of the present progressive tense skillfullyAnalysis of the teaching material The item of the present progressive tense is designed according to the principles of the “New English Course Standards”. The function of this unit is to talk about what people are doing and the topic is about everyday activities. So it is obviously clear that grasping this item of grammar is important. By learning process, students can not only find the structure of the present progress tense by themselves, but also they are able to put it into practice.Teaching Methods1. Task-based Method2. Heuristic Teaching3. Situational ApproachLearning strategy Help the students get into their self-study strategyThe idea of my teaching designApply the task-based teaching method. Several “tasks” will be designed for the students, and the students are encouraged to finish the task on their own. Through the “tasks”, students will be able to use English in practical situations, and learn some relevant knowledge, but not just learn by rules. Thats why I will also adopt heuristic teaching and situational approach.Meanwhile, I will also explore the students-centered teaching model. I will treat the students as the center roles in the class, and I am just their guide. Through my guiding, they can learn by themselves. Let the students try to find some new knowledge by themselves. And I just provide a platform for my students to learn knowledge.Designing of learning context1. The choice of multi-media resources: PPT2. The choice of learning environment: a classroom equipped with a multi-media computer.Teaching Procedures (T: Teacher S: Students)Step 1: Warming-up and revisionReview what students learned in the last lesson. T: Boys and girls, do you still remember what we learned in the fifth unit?. (Show PPT to the students. See the picture on the right.)Purpose: To give students an opportunity to test their memory and help them to fix the important knowledge in memory.Step 2: Presentation 1. First show the target language to the students in order to make the teaching material more target-oriented. See the picture on the right. At the same time, tell the students that the topic for today is “Everyday activities”. 2. Show the main words and phrases to the students and help them to guess the words meanings by looking at the pictures. 3. Task 1: To memorize the phrases as soon as possible. T: My dear students, please try to remember them as soon as possible. (After a few minutes) T: Time is up. Now lets watch the videos. Boys and girls, please answer myquestions according to the information on video.(Show the video clips)Its very exciting when the students watch themselves on video. And it can easily draw students attention into learning English.See the pictures on the right.Step 3: Do 1a. Match the activities with the pictures. T: Great. Next lets come to 1a and match the activities with the pictures. After a while T: Lets check the answers.Purpose: To help Ss remember the key phrases easily.Step 4: Listening. T: Good. Now lets come to 1b. Please listen carefully.After a while T: Well. Lets check the answers. 4. Teach the key sentences. “What are you doing?” “Im watching TV.” Purpose: To help Ss grasp the target language in a different way.Step 5: Guessing.Show Ss the picture and encourage them to answer the questions.T: Whats she doing?S: Shes using the computer.T: Whats he doing?Ss: Hes reading a newspaper.Further practiceT: TogetherSs: Whats she doing? Shes exercising. Whats he doing? Hes washing the dishes.T: Boys ask, girls answer.Boys: Whats she doing? Girls: Shes cleaning.Boys: Whats he doing? Girls: Hes making the soup.T: Girls ask, boys answer.Girls: Whats she doing? Boys: Shes talking on the phone.Girls: What are they doing? Boys: Theyre watching TV.Step 6: Pair work. Ask the students to practice them in pairs.T: Please practice them in pairs.After a few minutesT: OK. Next, lets come to the step “Its your turn” now. This time, Id like to ask two students to practice them together. You just stand where you are and practice them with your partners.After a few minutesPurpose: To help Ss grasp the target language in natural speech.Step 7: Listening 2a and 2b. (This material will help the students to recognize the target language in natural speech.)T: First, please listen and match the answers with the questions. After the broadcasting is over T: OK. Lets check the answers.Purpose: To help Ss improve their listening skills.Step 8: Pair work (This activity helps Ss use the target language in natural speech.) T: Good. Now practice the conversation in 2b with your partners. After a few minutes T: Well. Time is up. Now, lets check. Which pairs want to have a try. After several pairs finish the dialogue. T: Great. Boys and girls, lets come to 2d. Please read the conversation in 2d and match the pictures. In order to help students improve their listening skills, I play the tape recorder when they are working on 2d. After a few minutes T: Good. Lets check your answers. Then come to 2d.Step 9: Role-play (This activity is designed for Ss to use the target language in conversation.)Practice the conversation in pairs.T: Now lets come to pair work. Practice the conversation in pairs. A few minutes later, I will ask some of you to act it out in front of the class. Is it clear? S: Yes. After several minutes T: OK! Its time for you to come to the blackboard. Which pairs want to have a try?After several pairs have finishedPurpose: To give Ss opportunities to show their speaking skills and enhance their desire to learn English.Step 10: Summary(This activity helps Ss master the target language.)
