Unit 6 Im watching TV . 吉林省双辽市第五中学 李艳红I. Teaching material analysis: This part is Unit 6 Section A (1a, 1b and1c ).Its the beginning of the Present Progressive. It is around the topic “What are you doing?”.In the textbook, there are many pictures. It can make the students interested in English . It includes What questions, Yes/No questions and their answers. The teacher will set up a happy and relaxing environment and improve the students listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Teaching Aims and Demands 1. Knowledge and ability aims a. Key vocabulary : read a newspaper, talk on the phone ,make soup ,wash the dishes and so on.Target language: What are you doing? Im watching TV. Whats he/she doing? He/She is reading.What are they doing? They are runnig .Is he/she writing? Yes, he/she is. No, he/she isnt.b. Ability aims: Train students listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Train students communicative competence. 2. Procedure and method aims: a. The teacher do some activities to introduce the Present Progressive Tense. b. Ask some students to do activities and ask the others to guess.c.Use mind maps that students have designed to sum up so that students remember the knowlege easily. 3. Emotion attitude and values aims: To be a happy and brave person. Teaching Key Points The Present Progressive Tense., Yes/No questions and short answers and be able to make a conversation with it. Because the Present Progressive Tense is the importance of the course in middle school. Teaching Difficulties : The forms of the Present Progressive Tense: be doing and ask them not to forget “be”. In my teaching life, I know that the students often lose the verb“be”.II.1 Teaching Methods : Task teaching, Six-step &team cooperation of No.5 Middle School in Shuangliao,Jilin.(“六分一合”教学模式an original teaching way -pair work and group work )The students take the tasks into the lesson . They will know what they need to learn and it will make the studying better. Pairwork and groupwork can help the students learn how to get on well with others. They will feel happy when they are successful. When they feel to be needed, they will be more confident. It is good for their studies.2. Teaching Aids: A computer and a big screenA computer can carry lots of information and it can show many interesting pictures to the students. It can make the students more interested in learning English and get better results.III Learning methods:In this lesson , I use watching ,learning by doing , practicing and summarising methods. In the warming-up step , I do some activities and ask them to watch me to lead in the new language. Next I show them lots of pictures to practice the Present Progressive Tense. At last I ask them to sum up the forms of the Present Progressive Tense.IV Teaching procedureStep 1 Greeting Task 1. Make free talks with the students, like It is a special day ,isnt it ? Lets work together and go for it! Can you do it ? (Make a communication with the students in order to encourage students to be active and brave in class ,)Step 2 Pre-task Task .1 Lets talk !Boys and girls ,what are we doing ?What are we doing? 我们正在干什么?We are having an English class now. 我们正在上英语课。Im teaching you English.我正在教英语。Youre learning English.你们正在学英语。Im standing .我在站着。Youre sitting.你们在坐着。 Task 2 Show two pictures ,ask students to make sure what cats and ducks are doing . Step 3 While-taskTask .1. Show a pcture of the teacher that she is watching TVto lead in the new unit -Unit 6 I m watching TV. At the same time write the sentences on the blackboard and ask the students to repeat 2 Lets learn .Enjoy our class .You work,you learn youre great !Ask students to know about the Present Progressive Tense .The structure and the usage of the tense.Then show the rules of doing .Students sum up the rules of doing. (Different groups will get marks by finishing tasks .The marks are showed on the chart of Pramid Assessment .金字塔式评价表)3 Game 1- Lucky Plate Check students to make the forms of doing . Ask the students “What are you doing?”and help the students answer.4. Ask and answer Ask students to answer “What are you doing ?” 5. Add “Whats he/she doing ?”and “What are they doing?”by the slides. 6. Exercise :Fill in the blanks according to the pictures . 7. Game 2 Lets guess !Every group choose two persons to come to the front .One acts and the other guesses.Task. 2 Activities 1a and 1b1. Ask some students to read the phrases and match the words with the activities in 1a.2. Play the tape and ask the students to write numbers in 1b.3. Work in pairs to practice the language with “he, she and they”by the pictures .4. Play a game called “Passing the flower”to report their conversation.(Improve the students listening skills.)5. Ask some students to pretend to do an activity and the rest of the class will guess what the activity is. The students who gives the correct answer can do the next activity.(The activities can make them more interested in English and make the lesson more happyTask. 3 1 . Present the new language Main words and phrases . 2. Show the pictures about Happy apartmens .Different people are doing different things . Nancy and ask “Is Nancy doing her homework?”.Then show another one to answer it . 3. Activity 1a , Repeat phrases ,match the activities with thepictures . 4. Activity 1b,Listening.What are these people doing .Ask studentstowrite numbers from 1a .5. Activity 1c.Ask and answer about what people are doing.in 1a .(The students will be glad to guess it and it can practice Yes/ No questions.)Step 4 Post-task 1. Lets act and guess !Check the memory .A group come to the front ,act without sound and ask other students to look at. 2. Ask other students say XXX is doing .e.g XXX is running.3.
