Language structures: (1). The elephant is one of Thailands symbols.(2). This is a symbol of good luck.(3).Elephants can walk for a long time and never get lost.(4). People cut down many trees so elephants are losing their homes.3. Read the small passage with some basic reading skills: understand the central meaning and choose the best title(Lets save the Elephants.) by skimming; and the detailed information (Importance in Thailand, Facts and figures, Abilities, How to save them.) by scanning.4. Learn to talk with classmates about how to protect animals.5. We students should play an active part in saving endangered animals. And we should tell our parents and relatives not to hunt wild animals and to buy things that made of fur.Teaching Important Points1. Master the new words and phrases, and the key sentences.2. Ask students to read the chant together.2. Show some pictures about different kinds of animals and ask some questions. Pre-reading(1.)(2)Show the picture of the passage and ask students some questions: What animal is it?What is it doing?What do you think of elephants?2. While-reading(1) Ss skim the passage in 2b and choose the best title. What Is an Elephant? Come to Thailand Lets Save the Elephants Elephants Are Good Pets T guides Ss to Para.1 and Ss read the first sentence aloud together. T further explains that title summarizes the central meaning of the passage.(2) Read the text carefully and answer the following questions: 1).Where are the students from? 2). What do the students want to do?3). Is the elephant important in Thailand? How do you know that?4). Are elephants smart animals?5). What can elephants do?6). Are elephants in great danger? Why?7). How many elephants are there today?8).What can we do to save the elephants?(3). Read the text again and finish2cthe mind map. Have four students fill in the form and then check the answers.3. Post-reading Read the passage aloud after the tape and retell the text according to the mind map.Step3 Group work 1.Divide students into several groups and discuss: what canwe do to save the animals?
