The important points: the prepositions of places, the names of different places, and making conversations with the target language. 2. The difficult point: asking and giving directions with the prepositions and the sentences. Teaching and learning methods: task-based teaching method,communicative method. Teaching procedure: Step 1 Revision and lead in Guide students to review what weve learnt in last class, lead the students to revise the words of buildings with the “There is a. ; Is there a .? ; yes, there is. ; Where is it? ;Its on/near. /No, there isnt. ”Step 2 presentation 1 Show a draft of a street. teach them to express the location with a proper preposition. Students talk about the different places and make conversations using these words. 2 Students finish activity 2a, and then check answers by asking question: “Where is the pay phone?” make Ss describe the pay phone with the prepositions following the pattern: “Look at picture . ,the pay phone is . .”Step 3 listening and practice let Ss listen to the conversations and fill in the blanks. After finishing 2b, ask Ss to read the sentences to check answers. Ask the students to do some A&A exercises about the places in 1a on page 43. They can talk like this: Where is the post office? The post office is across from the hotel.Ask students to make their own conversations to ask and give directions according to the picture. And then ask some to perform their conversations.Step 4 role-play Ask students to look at the conversation in 2d, allow them some time to read the conversation and do some comprehension work about the target language in this class.
