Warm-up ( 5 minutes )a. Students watch a fragment of a cartoon show about Mickey and Donald. (Review by train, by plane, by boat, by car, by bus and by bike.)b. The teacher approaches various students in class and asks them, “How do you get to school?” and “How long does it take?”, then hopes them to answer in complete sentences like these, “I ride a bike.” and “It takes about forty minutes.3. Presentation (5 minutes)a. Put the following information up on the screen. Ask AnswerHow do you get to school?I ride my bike.How does he get to school?He walks to school.How do they get to school?They take the train.How long does it take?It takes about forty minutes.b. Students repeat after the teacher.4. Practice #1 Song: How Do You Get To School?( 8 minutes )a. Handout lyrics to the song. Sing it once for the students. Students repeat the song.b. Ask students to find out the two sentences “I ride a bike.” and “ They take a train.”5. Practice #2 Pair-work ( 13 minutes )a. Show a dialogue on the screen and ask students to read it out.A: How do you get to school?B: I take(乘坐) the subway.A: How long does it take(花费)?B: It takes(花费) about 15 minutes.b. Ask the whole class to recite the dialogue in one minute.c. Ask one pair of students to act it out.d. Show different kinds of transportation on the screen. Ask students to make a similar dialogue with their partners e. Ask two pairs of students to act out their dialogues.f. Ask three students to come up to the front of the classroom. The teacher gives them each a piece of paper with “ Mary”, “ ride her bike” or “take around thirty minutes”.g. Show how to make a dialogue with “ Mary”, “ ride her bike” or “take around thirty minutes” on the screen. The whole class read out the dialogue once.A: How does Mary get to school?B: She rides her bike.A: How long does it take?B: It takes around thirty minutes.h. The three students get another three pieces of paper from three boxes of different colors. Then ask some pairs to make new dialogues.i. Halfway through this activity, cover up the screen.6. Practice #3 Survey ( 12 minutes )a. Hand out the survey to students.b. Give an example like this:Student 1: How do you get to school, Li Lei?Student 2: I walks to school.Student 1: How long does it take?Student 2: It takes about twenty-five minutes.c. Students stand up and move around the classroom to ask at least 2 students about how they get to school and how long it takes. They are not allow to sit down unless they finish it.e. Ask one or two students to report like this: Li Lei is my best friend. He walks to school every day. It takes him twenty-five minutes to get to school. Lucy is my deskmate. She takes the train to school every morning. It takes her about 10 minutes.7. Closure: ( 2 minutes )a. Sing the song How Do You Get To School?again.b.
