We have no 37 on the plane. We have a generator (发电机), and we are going to start the engines with it. We will 38 in the air and head to Norfolk, and see what happens. ”See what happens? At this point, one woman started crying. “Oh, no! We are going to 39 !” There were sighs of desperation and 40 spreading throughout the plane, and we hadnt even taken off yet. Thirty minutes passed and we were still sitting there. Then the voice of the pilot came over again, “Ladies and gentlemen, I know you are 41 , so we are. We only have one engine going right now, and it is working double time. ”There was crying 42 we had walked in to grave (坟墓). But, the pilot told us our one engine was working double time! Finally our plane climbed up in the air and 43 happened. We arrived in Norfolk and everyone sighed for still being alive.Although I do sincerely like to have a plan better than “see what happens”, which really isnt such a bad life strategy, all too often, I would see people seeking their goals satisfied with inaction just because they dont have 44 success. Actually, success will never be 100% before you start! Lucien Lawrences letter to Father Christmas written after his schoolteacher father had been knifed to death outside his school gate must have touched every heart. Lucien went on to say that without his father he couldnt see the stars in the sky. When those whom we love depart from us, we cannot see the stars for a while. But Lucien, the stars are still there, and one day, when you are older and your tears have gone, you will see them again. And, in a strange way, I expect that you will find your father is there too, in your mind and in your heart. I find that my parents, long dead now, still figure in many of my dreams and that I think of them perhaps more than I ever did when they were alive. I still live to please them and I m still surprised by their reactions. I remember that when I became a professor, I was so proud, or rather so pleased with myself, that I couldnt wait to cable my parents. The reply was a long time in coming, but when it did, all Mother said was I hope this means that now you will have more time for the children! I haven t forgotten. The values of my parents still live on. It makes me pause and think about how I will live on in the hearts and minds of my children and of those for whom I care. Would I have been as ready as Philip Lawrence have been to face the aggressors (挑衅者),and to lay down my life for those in my care? How many people would want me back for Christmas? Its a serious thought, one to give me pause.I pray silently, sometimes, in the dead of night, that ancient cry of a poet Protect my soul from the sword, and my darling from the power of the dog. Yet I know the death comes to us all, and sometimes comes suddenly. We must therefore plan to live forever, but live as if we will die tomorrow. We live on, Im sure, in the lives of those we loved, and therefore we ought to have a care for what they will remember and what they will treasure. If more parents knew this in their hearts to be true, there might be fewer knives on our streets today. 61. What was Lawrences father? A. He watched stars as a scientist.B. He was a teacher. C. He was Father Christmas.D. He sold knives outside a school.62. Lawrence said he couldnt see stars in the sky because _. A. he became blind after his fathers death B. he lost his father who could help me to see the stars C. his father didnt buy him a telescope D. he thought his fathers death made him lose confidence in life63. What can we learn from the passage? A. Children always watch the stars in the evenings with their parents. B. The author often thinks of his/her parents after they died. C. The author still keeps in close touch with his/her parents. D. Lucien Lawrence will one day meet his father.64. By saying the underlined sentence, the mother felt _.A. proud B. happy C. disappointed D. worried65. The author writes the passage to _. A. tell the readers about his/her own life experience B. criticize the criminals in the society C. encourage the readers to cherish their life D. call on the readers to protect their belovedCIf youve been inside a grocery store in the past couple of years, youve probably noticed the trend in food producers adding Made with sea salt to their product packaging. The claim shows up on a wide variety of foods -from organic whole grain products, to mixed nuts, to American cheese product. Clearly the food industry has decided salt from the sea is a major selling point. But why? Is it better for us than plain old table salt? Some scientists say sea salt is healthier, and people are using a lot more of it. Sea salts are consisting of larger particles(颗粒)than table salt because the former goes through less processing than the latter. Sea salts are made from sea water. Table salt, on the other hand, usually comes from underground salt mines and is processed into finer crystals(晶体). The fun fact is that if youre a sea salt lover and are confident your local seawaters arent polluted, you can make your own.The less-processed aspect of sea salt may be appealing, but both types of salt have the same basic nutritional value. A teaspoon of table salt is finer, so it has more sodium (钠) by volume. But technically by weight they contain the same percentage of sodium about 40 percent.Sea salt may contain some other minerals depending on the water source - but generally not enough to make a difference in your diet. We can also get those minerals like iodine in other forms from our food. Table salt has been added with iodine (碘) since the early 20th century as a way to get more of the essential mineral into diets. The most important thing to remember: Sea salt is still salt, and you shouldnt consume too much of it. Aim for less than 2300 mg, or less than 1500 mg if you are over age 51 or have health concerns such as high blood pressure, diab
