Teaching plan for Reading Unit 1 Book5Hello , everyone. Its my great pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you. Part 1 Teaching Material: The content of my lesson is New Senior English for China Students Book5 Unit 1 Great Scientists. This unit is about great scientists, including some scientists both at home and abroad like John Snow and Copernicus.By studying of this unit, well Enable the students to know science is very important in our daily life.and train their serious attitudes towards science and develop their interest in science. Part 2 Teaching Aims1.Knowledge objects: a.learn and master the following words and expressionsWords: discover,explain,defeat,attend,ease,cure,control,suggest,absorbPhrases: lift up , put forward, use.to do sth,help (to)do sth,be similar to Sentence patterns: so.that.,neither.nor.,every time.b. Further develop the students reading ability and reading skills.2.Ability objects:(1)To develop the Ss abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing. (2) To Improve the students reading ability, especially their skimming and scanning ability.(3) To train the Ss ability of studying by themselves and cooperating.3. Emotion or moral objects:To encourage the students to learn about some great scientists and their great achievements and how science helps to improve our society and change our life. Part 3 the Important and Difficult points.Teaching Important Points:a.Train the students reading ability and develop their reading skills.b.Enable the students to understand the text better.Teaching Difficult points:How to make the Ss understand the reading text better.Part 4 Teaching Methods: “Communicative” Approach(交际教学法), “Whole language teaching” (整体语言教学法)and “Task-based” language teaching (任务教学法). Studying Methods: 1.Teach the Ss how to be successful language learners. 2.Teach the Ss how to understand the passage and how to communicate with others.Part 5 Teaching Procedures:Step 1 Lead-in.Guessing-a game by showing the Ss pictures of some great scientists and their great inventions, ask the Ss to guess who they are. Step 2 Brainstorm(Ss work in pairs ):Discuss the quiz questions and find out the answers.Step 3Pre-reading (Discussion in groups ).It can make them to get a general understanding of the basic procedure to get a scientific idea.Step 4 Fast Reading1) Individual workSkimming: Read the passage fast to find out the main idea of each paragraph. 2) Individual workScanning: Listen to the tape par by part to find out the main idea of the passage.Step 5 Datail-reading1) Individual workListen to Par1 and fill in the blanks.2) Group worklet Ss read the passage carefully and discuss the following question in groups:What are the two causes explaining how cholera killed people?3)Read Par 3,4,5and 6and finish the table.Step 6 Retell the text according to the key words.Step 7(Further discussion)What do you think about John Snow?
