Section A 1a-2dTeaching Aims:1、Knowledge and Skills:(1) Students can understand and master words about places in English, such as post office, police station, hotel, restaurant, bank, hospital, street, pay phone, park.(2) Students will be able to use simple English to express how to ask and answer about places with prepositions.(3) Students will be able to talk about a neighborhood with “There be” sentence pattern.2、Process and Methods :(1) Make full use of the tape player and pictures, creating scenarios to let students have the desire to participate in learning, and guide students to actively participate in classroom activities, as the main body of teaching and learning.(2) Advocates the combination of autonomous learning and cooperative learning to improve the learning efficiency. (3) Help students to build their own English categories thesaurus to improve the efficiency of remembering new words.3、Emotion Attitude and Values:(1) Let students learn about places we often use in life, and know their functions. (2) Enable students ask for positions of places and help others to solve a problem. (3) Cultivate the students competitive cooperation through group work and make students pay attention to the environment protection.Teaching Important and Difficult Points:1、Teaching Important Points:(1) Words about places: post office, police station, hotel, restaurant, bank, hospital, street, pay phone, park, and so on.(2) Prepositions : on, in front of, behind, across from, near, next to, between and(3) Sentences about how to ask and answer about places:-Is there a hospital near here? -Yes, there is. - Where is the hospital?- Its on Bridge Street.2、Teaching Difficult Points:How to ask and answer questions about places accurately.Talk about the positions of some places in a neighborhood accurately. Teaching Methods:Presentation, integrate listening, reading, and dialogue into the classroom, and combinate the group cooperation learning method and task-based teaching method.Teaching Aids: blackboard, chalk, ppt, a tape player, a tape, picturesTeaching Procedures:Step I Lead-inT: Today we are going to learn unit 8. Please look at what I have in my hand.S: Its a letter.T: Yes. I write a letter and I want to send it. What should I go?S: Post office.T: But Im new here, I dont know the post office near here. How can I ask the way?S: T: Yeah. We can use “Where is the post office near here?” or “Is there a post office near here?” (Write down the title)T: In Unit8 Section A, we are going to learn how to ask for and answer the positions of some places.Step II PresentationT: Now, look at two key words about a place and lets guess what places are they. For example, I show you “letter” and “mail”, it mean a “post office”. Understand?Ss: Yes!T: Look at “shopping”, “big”, Which place ?Ss:Supermarket!T: Now read after me in English, I read one time and you read three times, post office.Ss: Post office, post office, post office! T: Now, look at the second one, the words are “lake”, “hills”, Which place?Ss: Park!T: Now read after me in English, I read one time and you read three times, post office.Ss: Park! Park! Park!T: ID card, if you lose your ID card, where should you go?S: Police station! T: It has a “hall” and you can “live”, which place?S: Hotel!T: “Food” and “menu”.S: Restaurant! ( Present the words: police station, hotel, restaurant, bank, hospital, street, pay phone, park.)T: Now I put all pictures together, you please review all the new words with these pictures with your deskmate. You two please ask in Chinese and answer in English. If you can do it well, you please also try to remember the spelling.Step III 1a Match the words with the places in the picture.(1)Let the students finish activity 1a and check the answers.(2)Practice the wordsT: Can you read the places in1a? So please look at this map. We can see there are many places we learned just now. Theyre FengQing Park, Bank of China, Vanguard Supermarket, Yohol Hotel and Gaoxin Hospital.Lets make a dialogue with these places.A: Is there a hospital near here? B:Yes, there is. / No, there isnt.(1)The teacher read and explain the conversation. (2)Let the students make their own conversations with their partners and ask three or four pairs to show them.The teacher can provide some sentence patterns:S1: Is there a post ofice near here? S2:Yes, there is. Its on Long Street. S3: Is there a pay phone near here? S4:Yes, there is. Its on Center Street. - Is there a near here? -Yes, there is. Its on . Step VI Talk about where the places areThe teacher draw a simple map on the blackboard and draw the signs of different places, including hospital, bank, restaurant, pay phone, park, hotel and supermarket.T: Thank you for your help. I have known there are many placesnear our school, but also I want to where they are. Please look at my map. I want to know “Where is the park?”S: Its between the bank and the hotel.T: “Where is the supermarket?”S: Its across from the hospital.T: Wheres the pay phone?S: Its next to the supermarket.T: Where is the post office?S: Its in front of the restaurant.T: Also we can say the restaurant is behind the post office. Where are the bank, the park and the hotel?S: They are on FengQing Road.Step VII Listening:T: Lets summarize all the prepositions, please look at page 44, 2b. We can see them on the left, and then you will hear 6 conversations, for each one, you please choose a preposition and write down. Because you have to write down some phrases, so I think its a good idea to write down only the fisrt letter of each phrase first and then complete them, or you can give a number to eachphrase.Listen.T: Lets check your answers.The answers are across from, on, next to, in front of, behind.Step VII Role Pla
