The Second Period (Reading - comprehension Period)Analysis of the Teaching Material: As we know the topic of this unit is disability, so in the reading material, I will let the students know something about the life of the disabled, especially something about how to treat and help them in their daily life by learning the example of Zhong Xiaowen and the two ways of helping the disabled mentioned in the reading material. Through reading, I can also train the students ability of reading comprehension ,using a language freely, and the ability of judgment, summary and imagination. Teaching Aims: Get the students to know something about disabled people and how to help them.Train the students ability of reading comprehension and learn some new words and phrases at the same time.Teaching Important and Difficult Points: Improve the students reading skills and the ability of expressing themselves in English. Teaching and Learning Methods: Reading plays an important role in English study, and some students may find it difficult or dull to do some reading. So in this reading class I will use some ways to train their reading ability and arouse their interest, such as: asking-and-answering activity, fast reading, filling-in-the-form method, multiple-choice, cloze - test activity and discussion and so on, which are very useful to improve their ability of reading and expressing themselves freely in English.Teaching Aids: A computer ( a multimedia approach)Teaching Procedures: Step1. Ask questions to revise something about different types of disability and some famous people who are disabled and then lead in the text with a related question.( what do you think the disabled need most in the life?) through this way I can arouse curiosity and make them into class quickly.Step2. Get the students to do fast reading: find out the topic sentence of each paragraph and find key information about the two disabled persons mentioned in the text.( fill in a form). These two methods can help students get a general idea about the text and train the ability of getting important information quickly. Step3. Do careful reading: get the students to get some details about the two ways of helping the disabled. (questions / form). This activity is good for their expression and better understanding of the text. Step4. Get the students to sum up the structure of the text.( how many parts it can be divided into), through this exercise ,the students will be aware of what the main idea/ aim of the text is.Step5. Listen to the record of the text and do multiple-choice exercises. This method can train the students ability of analyzing and deep understanding.Step6. Do cloze test with key words or phrases and it can consolidate the understanding of the text as a whole and help students get familiar with the new words and phrasesStep7. By coming back to the lead-in question (what do the disabled people need most in their daily life?), I will get students to discuss how to treat / help the disabled. We know discussion can us
