Unit 5 Do you remember what you were doing?Teaching aims:知识目标:1. Predict what the passage is about by reading the title and pictures;2. Summarize the passage by interpreting the first sentence of each paragraph, so that they will understand the two tragic events in the American history;3. Talk and write about past events by using the past and the past progressive tenses, trying to practice using the following words and phrases: passage, pupil, completely, shocked, in silence, recently, take down, terrorist, date, tower and at first.能力目标:培养学生的阅读能力和知识运用能力。情感目标:通过本文的学习,帮助学生树立让学生记住一些重要的发生在中国及世界的重大事件,增强学生的责任感以及民族的自豪感,为建设更和谐、更美好的社会而奋发图强。同时培养学生学习英语的强烈兴趣,乐于参加各种活动的积极情感,善于合作,培养学生团结协作精神。教学重难点:1、培养学生的阅读能力,如略读、精读等能力及运用思维导图梳理文章结构及写作脉络。2、提升学生综合运用语言的能力,如交际能力等。Teaching procedures:Step 1 Lead inWatch a video “You and me”about 2008 Olympic games . She sang this song on the ceremeny of 2008 Olympic Games. The 2008 Olympic Games is a great event to the people in the world and China. So do you remember what you were doing at that time ? Practice in pairsA:Where were you at that time?B:. A: What were you doing at that time?B:I was (设计意图:看2008奥运视频歌曲来激发学生学习兴趣,活跃课堂气氛,并借此引出课文中的两个历史事件。在描述中呈现部分新词并操练重点时态,为下一步学习作好铺垫)Step 2 Pre-readingPredicting: Look at the pictures first. Guess what they are about.And read the title of the passage. Can you guess what this passage is about?(设计意图:根据标题和图片,预测文章内容,并为下文学习作铺垫)Do you know the world-famous speech I Have a Dream? It is given by Martin Luther King.Now lets enjoy it:Do you know the “911” event that shocked the world? Now lets see the real scene of “911”:(设计意图:通过视频让学生了解Martin Luther King是一名民族英雄,所以他的被刺对美国人民是一件大事;9.11事件的令人震撼是世界大事,为理解人们为什么记得发生这两件事时正在干什么做铺垫。)Step 3 ReadingA. Fast-reading1.Whats the main idea of the passage?(设计意图:快速阅读每段的第一句找出本文的中心句,培养学生略读的阅读技能)2. Divide the passage into several parts and find the main idea of each part.(设计意图:根据两个事件分段,把握文章结构及每部分大意)3. In what ways does the writer explain his opinion, by giving examples or by giving reasons? How do you know? Which words in the passage show it? (设计意图:引导学生注意衔接词的使用,关注举例论证的写作策略)B. Careful reading (设计意图:通过细节问题的设计,让学生了解两个事件,了解两位叙述者正做什么,感受如何;训练一般过去时和过去进行时句型,并在从中学习相关生词、短语;了解用what, who, when, where, how进行提问和完成过去事件的叙述。 通过深层问题的设置,渗透情感教育。)C. Understand difficult sentences(competition)Find the sentences from the passage with similar meaning to these ones.1. Not everyone will remember who killed him, but they can remember what they were doing when they heard that he got killed.(Although some people may not remember who killed him, they remember what they were doing when they heard the news.)2.
