Teaching procedureStep 1 Pre-readingLead-in Play a game! Lets close our eyes and turn around. Can you open the door? Difficult? Yes! Normal things like opening the door are difficult for us. Imagine we cant see or hear. We are the disabled people. There must be lots of difficulties. We need help. Who can help us or be with us at any time? Yeah, maybe a dog! A special trained dog can help the disabled people. Open your books and here is a letter about a dog and a disabled person.Step 2 While-reading1. Fast-readingTask 1 Skim the letter and answer the questions.(1)Whats the dogs name? Lucky(2)Who is the disabled person, Ben Smith or Miss Li? Ben Smith2. Careful-readingYou know this is a story happened among the dog and two people. So lets read carefully and find the details of the beginning, the development and the ending of the story. 3 minutes for you.Which paragraph is the beginning of the story? Paragraph one. At the beginning, Ben Smith thanks Miss Li. Because Miss Li gave money to Animal Helpers. It is set up to help disabled people. So Ben Smith got Lucky.Paragraph 2 and 3 are about the development of the story. Whats wrong with Ben Smith? He cant use his arms or legs well. One of his friends and talked to Animal Helpers. Then Ben Smith brought a special trained dog home. The dog is “Lucky”. He was clever and understands Ben Smiths orders. Lucky helped Ben a lot.Paragraph 4 is the ending of the story. Ben Smith thanks again for changing his life.So hell send a photo of Lucky to Miss Li. This is a story full of love, right?When you read, you may have new words, dont worry! Maybe knowing the part of speech a word (v, n, adj, etc. ) can help you understand the words meaning .
