外研版2019-2020学年八年级上学期英语期末考试试卷B卷一、 阅读理解 (共3题;共26分)1. (10分) As you are soon on your way to Eastern Europe, here are a few tips on what you should pack. In general, pack lightly, with only the most basic clothes. People dress casually(随便地) in Eastern Europe, so you dont need to bring along your smartest clothing.Batteries: If your camera, flash, or other appliances run on batteries, bring enough supply along. Certain types of batteries dont exist in Eastern Europe, and those that do often dont last very long.Cash: We have found it good to have supply of small-unit U.S. bills($1and $5) to use in hardcurrency stores, to buy international train tickets, etc. The hardcurrency stores never seem to have the right change.Electric Current Adapter(转换器): If you bring any appliances, remember that the electricity in Eastern Europe uses 220 volts A.C., not the standard 110 volts of North America. A 110 volts appliance will soon burn out when attached to an unchanged 220-volt plug.Language Tools: One of Europes biggest challenges is communicating with the local people since their languages are so different from our own. To help overcome difficulties, you might buy phrasebooks before you go you wont find them once you are in Eastern Europe.Money Belt: A money belt is especially helpful when you have many documents to carry around ( as you always do in Eastern Europe). The best one we find is made by Eagle Greek Travel Gear, 143 Cedros Ave. (P. O. box 651), Solona Beach, CA 92075 (tel. 619/755 9399, or toll free 800/874 9925) outside California.Travelers Checks: These are necessary. Bring your travelers checks in small to medium unit ($10, $20, or $50) to change a little bit at a time, so as not to be left with a lot of local money. To be on the safe side, be sure to copy down the check numbers in two places, just in case something happens to the checks. And if there is, can it affect how a nation succeed or fail?At least one group of people is certain that it can. A recent survey of the top 500 entrepreneurs in the UK found that 70% felt that their efforts were not appreciated by the British public. Britain is hostile to success, they said. It has a culture of jealousy. As a result, the survey said, entrepreneurs were “unloved, unwanted and misunderstood.” Jealousy is sometimes known as the “green eyed monster” and the UK is its home.Scientists at Warwich University in the UK recently tested this idea. They gathered a group of people together and gave each an imaginary amount of money. Some were given a little, others a great deal. Those given a little were given the chance to destroy the large amount of money given to others but at the cost of losing their own. Two thirds of the people tested agreed to do this. This seems to prove that the entrepreneurs were right to complain. But there is also conflicting evidence. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development recently reported that the UK is now the worlds fourth largest economy. That is not bad for people who are supposed to hate success. People in the UK also work longer hours than anyone else in Europe. So the British people are not lazy, either.“It is not really success that the British dislike,” says Carey Cooper, a professor of management at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. “Its people using their success in a way that seems proud or unfair or which separates them from their roots.”Perhaps it is the entrepreneurs who are the problem. They set out to do things in their way. They work long hours. By their own efforts they become millionaires. But instead of being happy they complain that nobody loves them. It hardly seems worth following their example. If they were more friendly, people would like them more. And more people want to be like them.(1)Most entrepreneurs surveyed believe that . A . the British people hate successB . the British people are hardworkingC . love of success is Britains national characterD . they are considered as “green eyed monsters”(2)What does the result of the Warwich Universitys test show. A . Two thirds of the people tested didnt love money.B . Most people would rather fail than see others succeed.C . An imaginary amount of money does not attract people.D . Most people are willing to enjoy success with others.(3)The writer of the passage seems to suggest that . A . jealousy is Britains national characterB . British entrepreneurs are not fairly treatedC . the scientists at Warwich University did a successful testD . the entrepreneurs in the UK do not behave properly(4)The best title for this article can be . A . Be More Modest and We Will Love You MoreB . Proud EntrepreneursC . The Frenchmen are Romantic While The British are HostileD . Only Pains but No Gains3. (8分)(2016北京)根据短文内容,选择最佳答案。Are You Right Handed or Left Handed?Which hand do you use when write? About 8 to 15 percent of people are left handed. They often have to use tools that are designed for right-handed people. So it is difficult for left-handers to use most tools. If you are right handed, try this experiment: Take a knife with your left hand and try cutting a potato into pieces. Dont be surprised if you feel awkward(别扭的).In the past, people thought it was strange to use the left hand. Young students looked down upon their left-handed classmates. Some children were even punished for using their left hand to write. But these days parents and teachers have accepted that. In almost every school in the world, left-handed students can use their left hand to write. What causes people to be left handed or right handed? Experts have searched long and hard on this. They conclude(得出结论) that left-handed people are left handed for the same reason that right-handed people are right handed. One out of every ten people just is a left-handed people are right handed. One out of every ten people just is a left-hander. Its simply like the color of our eyes some people have brown eyes, while some others have black eyes. However, may researchers think that left-handers and right-handers are different in some aspects. Right-handers are more talkative and outgoing than left-handers. Many right-handed people understand spoken words better. For example, after they listen to directions to a supermarket, they can find it easily. Right-handers are good at organizing people, too. They are also better basketball guards. Just ask Yao Ming.Research shows that left-handers are creative and artistic. Many famous performers, like Jim Carrey and Paul McCartney, are left handed. Many left-handers learn better visually(在视觉方面). In art, both Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were left handed. In music, Ludwig van Beethoven was left handed. In science, you find Newton and Einstein. The left-handed people are also really good at tennis and other single sports. If you prefer one hand, but you are still good at writing with the other, you are mixed. Research shows mixed-handers can remember everyday things better than other people. What did you eat for lunch two weeks ago?
