I guess most of us have. Then, how about getting a part-time job? And now there is an opportunity. This is an employment advertisement providing a position of general manager assistant. ask the students to discuss in groups and work out a resume to apply for the job If you plan to apply for it, the first thing you need to do is to make a resume and send it to the human resource department. Then try to discuss with your partners and design a resume. write down on the blackboard the key items of a resume sampleA typical resume usually includes the following itemsName: Address:Date of birth: Sex: Marital status: Health: Education: Work Experience:Awards and scholarships:Skills: Interests:Languages:References:Winning resumes lead to winning interviews. However, sometimes you may wonder why it is not yourself who can get the job and why he or she gets the job. Thats because a resume, though vital to applying for a job, is not enough. You need to make a great number of preparations for the interview to successfully get the job you want. So, today in text A, we are going to learn something related to how to get a job successfully. Before reading through the text A, allow me to introduce to you some background information that may help you comprehend the text. Step 2: Background information (5 mins)Michael Jordan (1963-): American professional basketball player, considered by many to be the greatest player in basketball history. The 6ft 6 (198cm) shooting guard first became known as an explosive individual scorer, but ad he matured as a player he adopted a more team-oriented approach to the game. Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to six National Basketball Association (NBA) championships. His widespread appeal to fans has helped keep basketball one of the worlds most popular spectator sports. Sir Roger Bannister(1929-?) : British physician and the first athlete in history to run a mile in less than 4 minutes. John Michael Landy (1930-): Australian athlete, and the second runner, after Englands Sir Roger Bannister, to break the four-minute mile. He did so in 3 minutes 38 seconds in 1954, two months after Bannister set his mark.Step 3: Text study (40 mins)I Structure of the text ()Well, now you have 5 minutes to scan the text and with the help of Text Organization Exercise 1 on page 80, think about the main idea of each part.Part I (Pa.1-6): A recent college graduate failed to answer the questions at an interview because of lack of preparation. Language points1. applicant: a person who applies for sth, esp. a post 求职者,申请人apply for/an applicant for/ an application for 2. stand out from the crowd: to be outstanding 突出,杰出,明显3. interview: question to decide if sb. is right for a job 面试usage:a. interview sb. (for sth.):对进行面试或面谈e.g. I will be interviewed tomorrow for the job of teacher of English.b. interview sb.(about sth.): 采访,访问c. related words and expressions: interviewee & interviewerhave an interview with sb.:会见某人give an interview to sb.:接见某人job interviews:(对申请者的)口头审查to go for an interview:进行面试4. grill: a. question intensely 盘问, usage: grill sb. (about/on sth.)e.g. 琳达盘问了她的丈夫几个小时,问他有没有偷走她藏在衣柜里的钱。Linda grilled her husband for several hours about whether he had stolen her money hidden in the closet.b. cook under or over direct heat 烧烤e.g. In a grill, customers can grill foods they favor. 在烧烤店里,客人们可以烤自己喜欢的食物。 5. follow sth. up: a. Inmost cases they can be used interchangeably. (See structure 1 on page 90-91)9. as the saying goes: used to introduce a particular phrase that people often say 俗话说,常言道e.g. As the popular saying goes, “Everything has two sides”.10. endeavor n. v. (L29): n. attempt or effort 努力,尽力 v. try 努力,尽力,力图e.g. 政府尽量减少因地震引起的损失。The government has made every endeavor to reduce the loss brought forth by the earthquake.e.g.他尽量满足他未来丈母娘的要求。He endeavors to meet the demands of his prospective mother-in-law.11. do ones homework(L.37): make preparation beforehand 提前准备,做准备工作e.g. 那位政治家显然还没有做好会前的准备工作。The politician had clearly not done his homework for the meeting.12. go after(L.38): try hard to obtain 努力争取,追求 e.g. He goes after the first in his class in examination.13. close every sale(with sb.)(L.39): be successful in every sale 每笔生意都成交,顺利做成每一桩买卖e.g. 他是个成功的商人,几乎做成了每一笔同生意伙伴的买卖。 He is a successful businessman and always closes every deal with all his business associates.14. I shouldnt have: I shouldnt have worried about having the 90-year-old man as my partner.15. incidentally: by the way 顺便提起地,附带地e.g. I must go now. With sth. 表示“留给某人某物”with sth.做sb.的宾语补足语How这个句子是一个与将来事实相反的虚拟句Prospective表示“预期的,可能要成为或是的,未来的”如“prospective advantages prospective advantages prospective advantages 预期的利益:prospective clients未来的经纪人;prospective bride未来的新娘2、When I graduated from college, the odds were good that I would have the same job for the rest of my life.(L3132)大学毕业的时,我极有可能终身只从事同一份职业。【注释】odds表示“可能性,可能的机会”。如:_The odds are in their favor.他们极有可能成功。_The odds are that she will get the nomination on the first ballot.她在第一轮选举中获得提名的可能性大。the odds were good表示“可能性跟充分大”。“that I would have the same job for the rest of my life”做名词”odds”的同位语。因为主语部分比较长,谓语部分比较短,所以将主语的从句部分放在谓语后边,以保持句子平衡。、But it takes no longer to prepare well for one interview than to wander in half-prepared for five. And your prospects for success will be many times better.(L40L42)但认真准备依次面试的时间不会多于马马虎虎准备五次面试的时间,而你成功的可能性要多得多。【注释】第一句话
