week 20 teaching and 15 administration whereas the Pistoia school is only asking for 30 hours teaching W Mmm M Then the type of teaching is so different The Polytechnic is all adults and mostly 他一边准备演讲 一边不断地问自己 我如何才 能让那些不懂地震知识或地质原理的听众听清楚 而且觉得浅显易懂呢 因为是在美国中西部演 讲 所以他决定以 1811 年美国历史上最严重的 地震不是发生在加利福利亚州或阿拉斯加州而是 发生在密苏里州新马德里这一话题开始演讲 并 假设如果这样的地震发生在今天 那么从洛杉矶 山脉到大西洋都会有震感 而且密西西比河流域 的大部分城市都将夷为平地 他想 这应该会引 起同学们的注意 在演讲的主体部分 Juan 只讨 论了地震的基本原理 并小心翼翼地避免使用术 语 他还准备了视觉教具 用图解法讲述断层线 这样他的同学就不会感到迷惑不解了 为了保证 演讲万无一失 Juan 先讲给他非地质专业的室友 听 他说 只要你听不懂 你就让我停下来 Juan 的室友打断了他四次 针对每一个问题 Juan 都设法找到解决办法 以使其表意更加清晰 最终 他的演讲非常有趣 而且他的听众也完全 明白了他所讲的内容 第三篇 世界语是一种人造的语言 是世界上讲不同语 言的人之间进行交流时使用的辅助工具 该语言 是由波兰籍犹太眼科医生 Ludwig Lazar Zamenhof 创造的 世界语的第一次出现在 1887 年 当时 人们发起了一项国际运动以推广它的使用 尽管 人们对此有争议和反对意见 该项运动一直蓬勃 发展 其支持者遍布 80 多个国家 世界上至少 will spread from Scotland to cover most parts by midnight Passage 2 Juan Louis a junior geology major decided to give an informative speech about how earthquakes occur From his audience and analysis he learned that only 2 or 3 of his classmates knew much of anything about geology Juan realized then that he must present his speech at an elementary level and with a minimum of scientific language As he prepared the speech Juan kept asking himself How can I make this clear and meaningful to someone who knows nothing about earthquakes or geological principles Since he was speaking in the Midwest he decided to begin by noting that the most severe earthquake in American history took place not in California or Alaska but at New Madrid Missouri in 1811 If such an earthquake happened today it would be felt from the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean and would flatten most of the cities in the Mississippi valley That he figured should get his classmates attention Throughout the body of the speech Juan dealt only with the basic mechanics of the earthquakes carefully avoid technical terms He also prepared visual aids diagramming photo line so his classmates wouldn t get confused To be absolutely safe Juan asked his roommate who was not a geology major to listen to the speech Stop me he said any time I say something you don t understand Juan s roommate stopped him four times And at each spot Juan worked out a way to make his point more clearly Finally he had a speech that was interesting and perfectly understandable to his audience Passage 3 Esperanto is an artificial language 父母告诉我们我们是什么样的人 他们 可能会说 你很聪明 你很强壮 我们首先通过别人的眼睛认识自己 因此 他 们的信息构成了我们自我意识的重要基础 后来 我们与老师 朋友 恋人和同事交流 他们表达 了对我们的看法 因此 我们如何看待自己反映 别人对我们的看法 身份与交流之间的深刻联系在被剥夺了与人交 流的孩子身上体现得尤其明显 对被孤立的孩子 的案例研究表明 他们缺乏坚定的自我意识 由 于缺少语言交流 他们的精神和心理发展受到严 重阻碍 与人交流不仅影响我们的身份意识 还直接影 响我们的身体和心理健康 研究一致表明与人交 流能改善健康 而社会隔绝与压抑 疾病和早逝 有关 与易于接近别人的人相比 缺少亲密朋友 的人的焦虑和压抑程度更高 一组研究者对多次 探索健康与人际交流关系的实验进行了仔细的研 究 结果证明社会隔绝就像高血压 吸烟和肥胖 一样危险 许多医生和研究者认为孤寂对免疫系 统不利 它会使人更容易换一些大大小小的疾病 particularly in specialized fields It is used in personal contexts on radio broadcasts and in a number of Its popularity has spread form Europe both east and west to such
